S Club Visits and Serves Dinner at Poverello House on March 9, 2022
While S Club has served at Poverello House for many years, this was their first time at “Papa Mike’s Cafe”, and that experience was rewarding for everyone. Poverello House honors their founder, Mike McGarvin, with a quarterly gourmet dining experience where clients have an upscale multi-course dinner served restaurant style.

Our SJM students were quite classy and kindly did a variety of service jobs, from decorating to hosting/seating to serving, cleaning, and preparing meals.

Our 20 students served 180 guests that day, and it was an honor to share this experience with Bishop Brennan as well. Poverello CEO Zachary Darrah felt that “the SJM crew did AMAZING!"

NHHS Visits Gold Rush Country
On March 12th, forty-nine members of the National History Honors Society (NHHS) ventured to the Sierra foothills for its spring field trip to learn more about the history the California Gold Rush. The first stop was at the Mariposa Museum and History Center in the small gold rush town of Mariposa. This museum is an award winning small museum chronicling the life and times of Mariposa in the Gold Rush era. Here students saw how gold was mined and extracted from solid rock as well as learned how to pan for gold. Students also toured a house of a merchant in the 1850s and 1860s and discovered how people lived in the gold rush era.
In the afternoon, the field trip continued with a visit to Columbia State Historic Park near Sonora—a living museum of the gold rush era of the 1850s. This state park is replete with saloons, blacksmith shops, a theatre, stage coaches rides, and even the original jail. Also many students walked a few blocks to the old one-room schoolhouse and the cemetery, both dating from the 1850s. Columbia and nearby Jamestown have been the location sites of many movies such as High Noon and Pale Rider and TV series like Little House on the Prairie and The Lone Ranger. Interestingly, the whistle and sounds of one of the classic steam locomotives housed in Jamestown was used for the Christmas classic, Polar Express.

NHHS will finish its activities this year with a History Jeopardy Tournament and a history Kahoot! Contest.

CSF Club Hosts a Campus Beautification Event

On Saturday, March 19, 2022 the CSF Board of Directors organized a campus beautification event for students that were interested in earning extra hours. Last Saturday from 9-11 am student volunteers picked up trash in and around the perimeter of SJM and cleaned the academic center. As the CSF Board of Directors continues to meet throughout the school year they plan to host more service opportunities for SJM students on and off campus.
Successful 76th Annual St. Patrick's Golf Tournament
The 76th Annual Golf Tournament took place on March 14, 2022. This is the longest running golf tournament in California and it took place at Sunnyside Country Club. The St. Patrick's Golf Committee welcomed almost 200 golfers that day. During the dinner some golfers received recognitions and the committee honored Justin McKeighan '91 with the Golden Shamrock Award.

Thank you to all of our parents, alumni, faculty, staff, current students, sponsors and friends of SJM who volunteered to make this event a success.

A special thank you to the St. Patrick's Golf Tournament Committee for all their dedication and hard work to raise money to support different programs on campus.

This year's golf tournament raised over $66,000 that will assist SJM's different programs. Congratulations to Scott Rurik who won the $15,000 putt!

Thank you to all committee members and chairs for your continued support, energy and commitment to this important event!

Our swimmers have all set new personal bests this year and continue to do so at every meet. They work very hard in morning and afternoon practices and it is showing with their swim times. We have swam dozens of consideration times and we have began to make automatic times as well; Evan Ladeairous swam a Valley automatic cut time of 1:58.50 in the 200 yard Freestyle. Our home meet vs Madera this week will be very close so please come out and support!

SJM SAT School Day Testing for Juniors
on April 26, 2022

Sign Up Today!

SJM is offering the SAT on our campus during the school day for current juniors on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

We highly recommend that all juniors to sign up for this exam as part of their college plan. The SAT is accepted at U.S. colleges and universities for admissions
consideration. It measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college. Although some colleges will be test-optional for the class of 2023 (test score not required to apply), we still recommend having a test score.

We are pleased to offer SAT School Day at SJM so that:
 Your student is more comfortable and confident by testing in a safe, familiar
setting.
 You don’t have to worry about the logistics of getting to a test center on a
Saturday morning.
 No one has to worry about weekend conflicts or disrupting family time.

The cost for the SAT is $52. (This is the same cost for national weekend test days. All funds go to College Board.) SJM will bill the student’s tuition account.

Registration is due by April 1, 2022.
