Car Thefts & Break-Ins Share Common Thread
Join Officer Delarisco Sumler in this informative video reminder of the importance of locking cars and securing valuables. Break-ins are on the rise - and even thefts. These are the direct result of cars being left unlocked with valuables - and even keys - left inside. Amberley Village has released a series of social media reminders to emphasize the importance of resident participation in our Public Safety efforts. If you see suspicious behavior, open garage doors or neighbors' cars left unlocked, contact the Amberley Village Police Department at 531-2040, and they will be happy to follow up.

Cat Rescue Brings "Guru" Back to Family
While rescuing cats from trees is the ultimate stereotypical fire run, our cross-trained Police Officers/Firefighters Ryan Faehr and Nick Mercer had never responded to one. And in fact, very few departments make these types of runs anymore.
Not only did our officers respond, but they utilized a 35-foot ladder to reach feline resident "Guru," who managed to get himself stuck in a tree at approximately 25 feet in the air. The cat was brought down safely, and the incident drew the attention of neighbors on Esther Drive who gathered in 90-degree weather and high humidity to witness the event. Just another "tail" demonstrating how fortunate our residents are to have their Police-Fire Department at the ready!

Amberley Village Residents Diverted 1,311.8 Tons in 2020!
Congratulations, Amberley Village residents! In 2020, we diverted 1,311.80 tons of metal, glass, plastic, paper, and yard trimmings. Residents saved resources, conserved energy, and reduced pollution by recycling.
The recycling efforts in Amberley Village:
• Conserved enough energy to power every home in Amberley Village for 20.2 days.
• Reduced more air pollution than if every household in Amberley Village rode their bicycle to work for 13.4 weeks.
• Saved 3,523.6 trees from being harvested.
On average, each household in Amberley Village diverted 1,940.5 pounds in 2020. That’s 61.1% of all the waste we generate.
Want to start recycling? Call 800-828-8171 to request your recycling cart today. Have a question about recycling? Call Hamilton County’s Recycling Hotline at 946-7766 or visit www.HamiltonCountyRecycles.org.

Update on Dogs at Amberley Green
As most residents are aware, Amberley Village is considering implementing restrictions on dogs at Amberley Green to address a growing concern with off-leash dogs and related incidents. A meeting of the Public Buildings & Parks Committee was held on June 8 to hear public comment on the proposed ordinance, which would limit hours dogs would be permitted off-leash.
Residents attended the online meeting and many submitted written comments, with feedback varying from the desire for a strict leash law to options for allowing off-leash dogs on varied days or at varied times. A third reading of the ordinance will be held at the July 12 meeting of Council, where residents will have another opportunity to address Village Council by signing up to speak or submitting written comments. For more information regarding protocols, background and the language of the proposed ordinance, click on the button below.

Village Electric Aggregation Renewal
The Village's current electric aggregation program with Constellation will conclude in August 2021. The Village’s broker, AG & E, held a competitive bid process where Dynegy Energy Services presented the most competitive rate that would provide Amberley Village residents another strong opportunity to capitalize on electric bill savings. The new electric aggregation fossil fuel rate is $0.04930 per kilowatt hour. This rate will begin with August meter readings and be seen on September 2021 invoices. The rate will continue for a two-year term through August 2023. The new rate is 9.4% lower than the current Duke Price-to-Compare rate of $0.0544 as of June 1, 2021. Residents who currently are enrolled in the Village's electric aggregation program with Constellation should have received an opt-out letter from Dynegy Energy Services in June. The opt-out letter was sent to all eligible residents, including anyone who may have moved into the Village or any others utilizing Duke Energy services.
To take advantage of the $0.04930 /kWh fossil fuel rate secured by the Village, NO ACTION IS REQUIRED BY YOU WITH THE OPT-OUT LETTER. You will also receive a letter from Duke Energy confirming your enrollment – no action is required if you wish to remain in the Village’s program.
GREEN ENERGY OPTION
For residents interested in the green power option, please contact Dynegy Energy Services after enrollment into the Village's aggregation program and request green power for your account. The rate for green power energy is slightly higher at $0.05345/kWh. Although the green energy rate is not the lowest rate available, the impact is beneficial to the environment through the reduction in carbon emissions, improving air and water quality. Please feel free to contact Dynegy Energy for more information on the many benefits of switching to green energy.

RESEARCHING AGGREGATION RATES
Please know that residents always have the ability to opt-out of the Village’s aggregation program and research their own program by visiting the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio's "Energy Choice Ohio" at www.energychoice.ohio.gov. If you wish to choose a different plan than the one offered by the Village, the Village cautions that you become familiar with another vendor’s program thoroughly before making the switch. Many vendors may provide lower introductory rates; however, once the introductory period expires, rates may increase significantly higher than the Village’s longer-term aggregation rate. In addition, there may be fees and penalties with canceling prior to a contract end date. There are no fees or penalties associated with the Village’s program.

Duke Energy Undergrounding Project
As announced to Council in December 2020, Duke Energy embarked on their Targeted Under Ground (TUG) Project to significantly reduce the power outage in the area. The TUG project is an initiative to bury the electric lines in front of the homes and remove the overhead power line in the rear of the homes. The undergrounding project is targeted at residents in the Elbrook area, who have been plagued with power outages over the years. The Village has been heavily pushing for solutions to the power outage issues and over the last couple of years, has worked closely with Duke to encourage undergrounding the electric lines. Duke has been seeking easements across property owners' land in order to take electricity underground.
Just recently, Duke has successfully acquired all easements for the scope of work they are planning to complete in 2021 on Section Road and Elbrook Avenue. The Village has granted their permit for the work on Section Road and Elbrook that will be underway soon but their plans are much greater as shown on the map attached. Within the next 2 years, Duke Energy will have undergrounded electric on part of Section Road, North Elbrook Avenue, Royal Oak, Laurel Oak, Twigwood, Larkfield, and a piece of North Fair Oaks. Unfortunately, this requires Duke to place a green electrical box out near the street however, these are a key part of the electrical system that delivers power to residents. They are only found in areas where electric service is buried underground but this is a multi-million dollar project that will improve the quality of electric service, minimize service interruptions, increase safety following an extreme weather event and speed up power restoration following major storms. If Cincinnati Bell and Spectrum decide to join the project and bury their lines as well, the poles will also be removed from the rear yards. When the project is completed, Duke Energy will have the ability to provide power from both the north and south ends of the area and isolate areas and restore power faster if in the event power is lost. The Village is grateful for Duke's attention and investment in our community.

Amberley Village
Municipal Park
Tree Update:
OUR SOLID
Commitment
to Trees
Contractors recently removed a tall pine tree from the Amberley Park Playground after it was struck by lightning. The removal was conducted to ensure the long-term safety of the playground area and residents utilizing both it and the Walking Track.
Amberley Village is committed to the replacement and increase of its tree population, and has added three new trees at Amberley Park in recent months through its Tree + Bench Donation Program. In accordance with Tree City USA® and the Arbor Day Foundation guidelines, Amberley Village relies on its Environmental Stewardship Committee to assist in overseeing efforts to nurture and grow our tree population.
Amberley Village's new Tree + Bench Donation Program, which was initiated by the Environmental Stewardship Committe, offers a unique opportunity for residents and neighbors to establish a lasting commemoration of a loved one, special event or anniversary.
The Tree + Bench Program not only provides public recognition but also enhances the Village by strengthening its park-like assets.
Since the introduction of the Tree + Bench Donation Program, three trees have been added to Amberley Village vistas near the Municipal Building:
Mr. Jerry Pabst of Lynnehaven Drive honored his wife and soulmate, Phyllis Followell, who passed away in Februrary 2020 with a Silver Linden on the hillside near the playground. This tree has heart-shaped leaves that match the heart Mr. Pabst included on the plaque.
Ms. Betty Whitaker of Longmeadow Lane donated a tree in memory of her late husband, Arthur Whitaker, and his service to the Navy in WWII. An Autumn Fantasy Red Maple was chosen for installation along the Upper Walking Track.
Current and former members of Council and Village employees donated a Lacebark Elm in memory of Council Member Ed Hattenbach to commemorate his social nature. This tree is beautiful all year long and attracts both birds and butterflies.
Contributions to the Amberley Village Tree + Bench Donation Program are tax deductible, help expand the park-like feel of the Village and contribute to our continued efforts as a Tree City USA community!

If you know someone who is currently not receiving our emails, they may contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org with their name and email address, and we'll be happy to add them to our mailing list!

Residents are invited to attend public meetings, and masks will be required only for those not fully vaccinated. Amberley Village will continue its deep cleaning protocols, as well as provide hand sanitizer throughout the building. In addition, residents will notice several changes in our facilities to promote touchless access, including restrooms, water fountains and door entries.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.
These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
