Spirit Week: October 26-30

Hours of Operation:
Hours of operation will remain 7am to 5pm through October. With the colder weather we are asking families to stay with their scheduled pick up and drop off times. If your family needs to make adjustments to your drop-off and pick-up times, please communicate with Jody at jodyw@katieskids.net.

Drop Off and Pick Up:
Katie's Kids REQUIRES all family members who drop off and pick up children to wear a mask. If you are not feeling well or hold any COVID symptoms please arrange for someone else to drop of and pick up your child. This is to protect your family and the staff.

COVID...
Updated Mask Policy
DCFS is now mandating mask be used by all adults and children 2 years and over. We are now required, not just encouraged, to follow this rule. Masks must be worn at all times tolerable except during meal times and while playing outside. If you have not done so already, please provide us with a mask for your child aged 2 and up.
Please place a mask on your child before entering the building in the morning.

Family Pledge:
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases are rising in McLean County. Please continue to be mindful of your pledge to KKLC. We can not keep our children safe without you and your dedication to health and safety. You can help by doing the following:
  1. Continue to take precautions to limit your exposure as you move about in the community.
  2. Wash your hands often and wear your mask in group settings.
  3. If your child or someone in your household shows sign of illness, please use a cautious approach when deciding to send your child to school.
  4. If someone in your household shows signs of COVID-19 and needs to be tested, please keep your children at home until the results are known.

Health Corner...
According to the CDC website:
Diet and Academic Performance
  • Eating a healthy breakfast is associated with improved cognitive function (especially memory), reduced absenteeism, and improved mood
  • Adequate hydration may also improve cognitive function in children and adolescents, which is important for learning
Each month we are going to focus on a section of "My Plate"
Let's start with fruit...
What foods are in the Fruit Group?
Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the Fruit Group. Fruits may be fresh, canned, frozen, or dried, and may be whole, cut-up, or pureed.

How much fruit is needed daily?
The amount of fruit you need to eat depends on age, sex, and level of physical activity. The amount each person needs can vary between 1 and 2 cups each day. Those who are very physically active may need more. Recommended daily amounts are shown in the table below.

What counts as a cup of fruit?
In general, 1 cup of fruit or 100% fruit juice, or ½ cup of dried fruit can be considered as 1 cup from the Fruit Group. This table below shows specific amounts that count as 1 cup of fruit (in some cases equivalents for ½ cup are also shown) towards your daily recommended intake.
