Communion Statement
The Lord's Supper is celebrated here in the confession and glad confidence that our Lord, as He says, gives not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sin. In joyful obedience to the clear teaching of our Lord Jesus those are invited to His table who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. They show forth His death until He comes. Because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and so are unable to receive the Sacrament are invited to meditate on God's Word in the distribution hymns and pray for the day when divisions will have ceased.

School Enrollment for 2021-2022
Starting February 1, St. Paul congregation members will be able to enroll for the 2021-2022 school year. Registration will open to all current families on February 15, and to the community on March 1, 2021. A $75 preschool enrollment fee and a $50 grade school enrollment fee (per child) will reserve your child’s spot for next year. There is the potential for classes to fill up, so members are encouraged to enroll between February 1-12 to secure your child's spot. Once registration opens to current families and the community, classes will fill on a first come, first served basis. Information and enrollment forms are available in the school office or online by clicking here. If you desire your child to receive a Christ-centered education, please call the school office at 989.684.4450 for more information and to make arrangements to enroll your child.
Thank You! Thank You!
The entire staff of St. Paul would like to express our sincere thanks to the congregation for blessing each one of us with an unexpected bonus that was passed at the voters meeting on January 17th. We are truly grateful and blessed to be part of the ministry here at St. Paul! May our Lord continue to work through each and every one of us to share His word with the children He has placed in our care. Please continue to pray for the health and safety of the staff and students as we go about the daily task of teaching and learning!

Ladies Aid
We're holding our first meeting since November on Feb 1, 7:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary with our newly installed Board presiding. For our topic Sam Britton, chair of the building committee, will talk about the new Ministry Center; past including a little on how we got here and the construction process, present including a tour of the building, and future including potential policies, procedures, furnishings and the like. There will be time for questions but if you have something specific or detailed we can get your question to Sam ahead of time. There will be a light snack provided but bring your own beverage if desired. Please wear your masks and respect other's space. All ladies of the congregation are always welcome at Ladies Aid meetings. See you then!

Altar Flowers
The altar flower calendar is up for 2021 in the cry room. If you would like to place flowers on the altar for any occasion, write your name and occasion on the date desired and it will be in the bulletin. Don't forget to order your flowers and have them delivered. If you have any questions, please call Julia Appold or Cindy Eastman.

Baby Bottle Boomerang
Baby bottles are available to fill with donations for Beacon of Hope (soon to be known as LifeClinic), our local pregnancy resource center. Please consider supporting this local ministry by picking up a bottle and returning it filled with your coins, bills, or checks. We will be collecting bottles through February 7, but please return them as soon as possible.

2020 Contribution Statements
Please check your church mailbox in the basement to receive your 2020 contribution statement. Thank you!

Hot Lunch "Takeout Thursdays"
St. Paul Hot Lunch is excited to introduce "Takeout Thursdays" in 2021. Each Thursday, we will be ordering takeout from a local restaurant and offering these meals at regular hot lunch rates. We are looking for Thrivent Action Team gift cards or other donors willing to help sponsor these meals. Donor support of these meals will allow us to apply excess funds as a fundraiser for the Hot Lunch program. We look forward to partnering with and supporting local restaurants. If you are willing to donate toward this cause or apply for a Thrivent Action Team, please contact Heidi Schultz at school (684-4450).

Stewardship - A Way of Life
Mark 1:22 – “And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.” Authority is a word we are sometimes afraid of and don’t like to hear. But that’s just our sinful flesh talking. Jesus’ authority is something we need. We need him to show us what to believe and how to live, for Jesus’ authority is always connected to his love.

VLHS Virtual Auction
The 18th Annual Valley Lutheran Benefit Auction is happening February 24-27, virtually! You can register to bid at no cost from anywhere you can access the internet. This is the largest annual event fundraiser for Valley Lutheran to support the annual needs with the largest amount going to financial aid. Consider being a sponsor or advertiser, donating an item or service, or joining the virtual auction. Items are continually updated at www.vlhsauction.com or you may contact Beth Kaul at 754-5918 or the school office at 790-1676.

1,000 Bars of Soap
Orphan Grain Train collects Hygiene Kits prepared by organizations looking for a way to show Christian kindness to those in need. Previous donating organizations sometimes had excess items above the supply needed for their kits also given to us at OGT. Such has been the case with soap. Any church or school considering a Hygiene Kit project for Orphan Grain Train can have a start with soap. Orphan Grain Train—Michigan has over 1,000 bars of soap you can acquire to begin your kit project. We also have an oversupply of toothbrushes. Just let us know how we might help launch your kit project. Consult the Hygiene Kit “menu” for needed items listed at “Special Project” at the main Orphan Grain Train website: ogt.org. You may also call us at 989-600-2264.

Old Testament Reading
Deuteronomy 18:15–20
15“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— 16just as you desired of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ 17And the LORD said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. 18I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him. 20But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’”

Epistle
1 Corinthians 8:1–13
1Concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
4Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— 6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
7However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

Holy Gospel
Mark 1:21–28
21They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath [Jesus] entered the synagogue and was teaching. 22And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. 23And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. 27And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.
