Maryland Crisis Stabilization Center Moves to the Newly Renovated Hebrew Orphan Asylum
The Maryland Crisis Stabilization Center, overseen by Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB) has moved to its permanent location at the historic Hebrew Orphan Asylum (HOA). The Crisis Stablilization Center provides short-term sobering and stabilization services for people under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Crisis Stabilization Center in the HOA was renovated into a state-of-the-art community health services facility with $3.6 million in capital funding from the State of Maryland. The Center’s newly renovated space increases the Center's capacity from 15 beds to 35 beds, has state-of-the-art facilities, and provides significantly more space overall, offering dignity and respect to the people the Center serves, as well as staff and the community. The HOA is located at 2700 Rayner Avenue in the heart of the Greater Rosemont neighborhood of West Baltimore.

The Center receives referrals from Baltimore City's Emergency Medical Services (EMS), hospitals, community outreach teams, outpatient behavioral health providers, and also accepts walk-ins. To protect against COVID-19, the Center is currently only serving up to 17 individuals at any given time. Behavioral health providers that would like to refer eligible individuals should call (443) 438-3509 to inquire about bed availability before making a referral.

The Crisis Stabilization Center is supported by $3.6 million in capital funds from the state, a $2.3 million grant from the Maryland Department of Health, and a $600,000 grant from the CHRC. In recent years, the CHRC has prioritized funding for projects that support integrated behavioral care and assist the state's response to the heroin and opioid crisis. The grant to the Crisis Stabilization Center is one of 72 grants totaling over $19.5 million which have collectively served more than 76,000 individuals.
