Join The Mosaic for a mission trip this summer! |
|
The Schoharie Mosaic Cooperative Ministry is gearing up for another fantastic mission trip this summer. We are heading to Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop, Maine for the week of August 15-20, 2022. Mechuwana has a well organized workcamp program where teams of volunteers come and get paired with work projects in the community. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, regardless of experience or skill. Scholarships will be available to cover the costs. Please prayerfully consider if this is an opportunity to put your faith into action helping those in need. To learn more about Camp Mechuwana visit their website at http://www.mechuwana.org.
We are enthusiastic about coming together for the purpose of ministry and mission in Christ!

Transitional Intentional Interim Specialist Training at Casowasco
Transitional Intentional Interim Specialist Training (TIIMS) is designed to help pastors and congregations deal with the stresses of our culture in this time of uncertainty. While this training is specifically designed for those entering an interim situation (death of pastor, long pastorate, pastor leaving ministry, etc.), the training will help you deal with the everyday struggles you will find in any ministry setting.
This training is a three-phase experience spanning six months of time. Phase I is a three-day introduction to the concepts and principles of Interim Ministry. Phase II is a time in one’s ministry setting using some of the tools and principles learned in Phase I. Phase III is a re-gathering of the group.

Stewardship Academy starts April 23 on Zoom
Upper New York ordained deacon and Director of Christian Stewardship, the Rev. Susan Ranous, is offering a Stewardship Academy via Zoom over four sessions (April 23, May 21, June 18, July 16). Rev. Ranous will share all concepts of stewardship including self, time, talents, money, and more.
This is an opportunity to read and learn about stewardship and all that it entails. The Academy qualifies clergy for CEU.

Launchpad training starts next month
Launchpad is the training for Churches and Church Planters looking to create “New Places for New People.”. Over six sessions your Team will learn:
· How to engage new people outside of your church
· How to clarify vision and contextualize your discipleship
· How to establish a six-month plan with 1 year of monthly support from NFC
· How to gather support for your new ministry
The Launchpad training will take place on Zoom on Tuesday evenings from April 26-June 7 (with May 31 for team meetings), with a different topic each session.
Each Launchpad is limited to 20 individuals, each Team should include 2 to 8 Core Team Members. The Cost for your Team is $50. There is 1-2 hours of required reading to do before Week 1 of Launchpad.

Course offered to teach church members how to lead a worship service
Ms. Joyce Royal has been the certified lay minister at Gloversville: North Main Street UMC, located in the Mohawk District, for three years. Having previously served as the Education Coordinator for Lay Servant Ministries in the Albany District, Joyce has a curriculum to help lay servants and members of a congregation learn how to lead a worship service.
Joyce is co-teaching a class with Ron Talbott from North Bush UMC on March 19 and March 26 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day at Gloversville: North Main Street UMC that is open to lay servants ($20 fee and continuing education credits offered) and anyone who would like to learn how to lead a worship service.

Tending the Soul new cohort to begin Nov. 2022
Tending the Soul, a training program in Missional Spiritual Direction and Congregational Formation will be starting a new cohort in November 2022. The program is designed for lay and clergy. Perhaps more than any other time in our recent past, the ability to listen deeply for God, to remain centered and non-anxious, and to hold sacred space for others is an essential tool in ministry (both within your local congregation and the greater community).

Women in ministry: Then and now
Women who found movements are sometimes designated as “mothers.” In early Methodism, the women who earned this title bore it as a mark of distinction. United Methodists stand with Ukraine
United Methodists across the globe condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stand in solidarity with those experiencing violence, displacement and suffering in the midst of war. Learn more about the ways United Methodist prayers, aid and witness are being directed to Ukraine.

Giving opportunities in response to the war in Ukraine
Individuals can give directly to the Ukrainian people through local church offerings by writing a check to the Upper New York Conference with Advance #14053A in the memo line of the checks. These checks can either be placed in an offering plate or sent directly to the Conference office.
The Ukraine UMC has created a crisis committee that will oversee all the global support that is coming in through UMCOR’s Advance #14053A “Eurasia In Mission Together - Ukraine and Moldova.” The money channeled through this Advance fund will go to the Ukraine UMC church account and decisions on how this will be used will be considered by the crisis committee, which includes pastors as well as lay leaders.
UMCOR also offers other opportunities for more specific giving to Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. You can designate giving by stating it is for "Ukrainian Refugee support" to the following Advance numbers.

Supporting the humanitarian response in Ukraine
The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church is deeply troubled by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the ominous implications it has for escalating tensions between Russia and Western nations. They join many Christian leaders and organizations worldwide in deploring the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, and they ardently pray for a redirection of military action toward diplomatic measures to resolve grievances.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the humanitarian relief arm of Global Ministries, is in communication with partners in the region and actively exploring the coordination of humanitarian response in Ukraine. You can support UMCOR’s international disaster response efforts by writing a check to the Upper New York Conference with either Advance #982450/Ukraine or UMCOR/Ukraine written in the memo line.

UM Global Ministries and UMCOR’s response to COVID-19
Since the early months of 2020, the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) have followed a broad, proactive course in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, reflective of the international guidelines for nonprofit participation in the effort to control and overcome the disease and in line with established denominational policy on the alleviation of suffering.
Global Ministries response through the “Sheltering in Love” Advance and other sources of funding have, to date, enabled the release of over 340 grants totaling $4.5 million to more than 300 partners in 57 countries.

UMCOR Sunday is March 27.
March 27 is UMCOR Sunday, a day in which churches throughout the denomination are encouraged to collect donations to support the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. For more than 80 years, UMCOR has ensured that 100% of its gifts to specific projects help those who need it most. Core resources are available in multiple languages.

2022 Annual Conference offerings
At the 2022 Annual Conference the offerings that will be collected have been planned as follows.
The Clergy Care Fund offering will be collected at the Clergy session will be used to assist clergy who need financial support.
The Helping Hands Fund offering will be collected at the Laity session—it will be used by the Cabinet to assist congregants in need of financial support.
An offering to support the Mission Central HUB will be taken during Opening Worship.
An offering to support Mission of Peace (MOP) will be collected during the Blessing and Anointing service—this collection helps support the annual youth “journey of discovery and shalom” in nations in our global community.
An offering to support development of New Faith Communities will be collected during the Service of Commissioning and Ordination.

New- Equitable Compensation application for July-Dec. 2022 available
The Commission on Equitable Compensation has issued guidelines and application forms for salary grants to local churches for the period July to December 2022. Salary grants are available only to churches with a pastor under full time appointment.
To apply for salary assistance from the Equitable Compensation Fund, applicants should review the policies and procedures in the application document for guidance, and then complete the application according to the directions provided. Completed applications should be submitted to your District Superintendent by the April 8, 2022 deadline.

Presentation on General Conference recorded
The Rev. Bill Mudge Senior Pastor of the Baldwinsville United Methodist Church, former Adirondack District Superintendent, and clergy General Conference delegation leader, was present on the Adirondack and Albany districts this week to answer questions and offer information and thoughts about the upcoming General Conference. There are things we know, things we don’t know, speculation, information, and misinformation. This was an opportunity to sort some of this out so that we may stay focused on our mission, and keep looking for what God is doing among and through us. Many people expressed appreciation for Bill's efforts to offer clarity and insight.

CBOPHB delays enforcement of direct bill arrearage policy
Understanding the struggle faced by many congregations, the Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits (CBOPHB) had voted to delay enforcement of the direct bill arrearage policy that went into effect Jan. 1, 2020, for years 2020 and 2021. The CBOPHB has approved to continue the delayed enforcement through Dec. 31, 2022, recognizing that there are churches that are still struggling financially.

General report by the Protocol Commission
During the Upper New York (UNY) Annual Conference held virtually in June of 2021, the body passed Resolution UNYAC2021.7 which created a Study Commission to examine the readiness in the UNYUMC for the Implementation of the Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation. This commission is composed of the Conference Treasurer, Dean of the Cabinet, Conference Chancellor, Director of Connectional Ministries, Director of Vital Congregations and representatives of the Committee on Finance and Administration, Board of Ordained Ministry, Board of Trustees, Board of Pensions and Health Benefits, General and Jurisdictional Conference Delegations, and up to three persons named by Nominations and Leadership Development.
The Study Commission met via Zoom several times and created two surveys for both clergy and congregations. The surveys were transmitted to congregations and clergy via District offices and District Administrative Assistants.

This is a reminder that New York State employers must adopt a sexual harassment prevention policy and provide training on sexual harassment prevention to their employees on an annual basis. This includes all those employed by the local church.
There is a free on-line training that is available to all. A certificate of completion is provided when the training is complete.
