Parents Association Pregame BBQ
This Friday the Parents Association will be hosting a BBQ in support of our basketball team's games against Maranatha. Join in for the Devil Dogs BBQ food truck, free dessert, hydration station with DJ music, games, a spirit station and more! Black Student Union will be running a concession from the time school ends up until the pregame begins at 5:00 p.m.

Catch Over 200 Singers at the Next Winter Concert!
The winter concert will feature the upper school jazz-rock and classical ensembles and a choral concert featuring over 200 singers from Pacific Ridge, La Jolla Country Day School, The Bishop's School, Temecula Preparatory School, San Diego Jewish Academy and Cathedral Catholic High School.

Conscious Parenting During the Teen Years with Sue DeCaro
Parenting teens doesn’t have to be stressful! This workshop will offer parents an opportunity to learn conscious approaches to parenting teens, how to create deeper connections, look at discipline in a new way, and create more fulfilling parent-teen relationships. Digital Health & Wellness Middle School Parent Night
Middle schoolers want more independence and time with friends while also being asked to responsibly own and use phones and laptops. BIOS Hosting Book Drive
Service learning group Bilingualism In Our Schools is hosting a book drive for both the middle and upper school. They are looking for books in any language and at all reading levels, but prefer Spanish or English. There are boxes set up in the upper school lobby, main offices and Community Hall. Please bring by any spare books you have!
After-School Extension Classes Are Available!

New & Noteworthy
Pacific Ridge Hosts FTC Robotics Competition
Pacific Ridge recently hosted students from all over San Diego County for a FTC Robotics League Competition. The students were challenged to design, build, program and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge. The Firebirds created three separate teams to compete; Singularity, Pyrobots and Ridgebots. Singularity impressed, finishing 2nd place with Pyrobots following in 3rd. The Ridgebots had a great day and finished 14th. Senior Elisse Chow led the teams all week under great pressure and adversity awhile remaining positive and keeping the teams morale and productivity up. Great job, Firebirds! Astronomy Club Visits Anza
This past weekend the Astronomy Club went camping in the Anza Borrego Desert. During the day, students took in their surroundings by hiking to view points in the area. At night, they observed the sky lighting up with constellations and shooting stars. Students enjoyed mapping constellations and spending time watching the magical night sky.
Academic Adventures
Steam Elective Making Music has Officially Kicked Off!
Making Music is a part of a 3-trimester makers track at Pacific Ridge that also includes Industrial Design, Entrepreneurship, Zombiology, Surfboard Making and more. With the help of the music department, students are creating functional instruments including cigar box guitars. They will design their instruments using CAD programming, then will use various equipment from the Fabrication Lab to create perfect sounds.
Service Learning
The Jefferson Elementary School Group Shares New Year Celebrations
The middle school service learning group Jefferson researched different New Year celebrations throughout the world and prepared Google Slide presentations with pictures of the various traditions to show to their elementary school buddies. After presenting the different cultures and traditions, the students made “floating” lanterns to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year.

All-School College Guidance Programing: NCAA Roundtable, Standardized Testing Primer, and Summer Opportunities Fair January 30th
On January 30, we will be hosting our annual all school programs on college athletics, understanding standardized testing, and our summer opportunities fair. These programs run every year and are open to the entire Pacific Ridge Community, but are especially helpful for 10th and 11th grade families.

Junior College Meetings
Juniors college meetings are in full swing! To arrange a meeting, 11th graders first complete their Junior Survey in SCOIR, then schedule with College Guidance in person. Juniors can schedule their family meeting once they have completed their first individual meeting and we have received their parent questionnaire.
 
Save the date! College Night for Sophomores and Parents is February 27th
College Night for Sophomores and Parents is Thursday, February 27 in the auditorium at Dove Library on Dove Lane in Carlsbad. This incredibly important program provides families with an overview of our ongoing work with sophomores, including the sequence for your spring meeting. We will also be introducing our improved college research platform SCOIR which has replaced Naviance.

Sports on the Ridge
Pacific Ridge Hockey Dominates in Minnesota - Again!
This past weekend the Pacific Ridge Hockey Club traveled to Minnesota to once again compete in the NAPHL Prep Division. They beat teams from Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia to bring their final league record to a first place 7-0-1! Coach Juan Trevino says "I'm so proud that the team could travel that far away against schools that recruit nationally in Canada and the United States and compete and win! The team demonstrated community and a strong commitment towards one another which is what made it all happen." The hockey club's final home game is Senior Night on February 8 at 7:15 p.m. Let's get out to Carlsbad Icetown to support our Firebirds!
Middle School Athlete of the Week
8th grader Kevin Sun has 6 goals and 5 assists so far this season for the middle school soccer team including a goal and an assist vs. Santa Fe Christian.
Upper School Athlete of the Week
After being down 3-0 at half-time against The San Diego Jewish Academy, senior Luc Clark scored 2 out of the 3 goals to guide his team to a 3-3 tie. He then earned a penalty kick in the next game to inspire a 3-2 win against Escondido Charter.
