Seventh Sunday of Easter

Weekly Chimes

Happy Wednesday, Old Donation!

We've got a busy week ahead of us. Tomorrow in particular will be packed full of activity and opportunities to join together. Hopefully by now you have either watched, or made plans to watch, the first lesson in our Psalms class, which came out yesterday. Tomorrow, at 11am and 8pm we'll have ZOOM "classes" which will be open to all of Old Donation, Eastern Shore Chapel, and Galilee for discussion, questions, and a deeper dive into Tuesday's lesson. Instructions for getting into the ZOOM class can be found in yesterday's email. Please set aside one of these times to join us for a different way of doing Adult Formation.

Also happening tomorrow is Taco Thursday! You have hopefully been seeing and hearing all about this over the past few days. All you have to do is call Moe's at the number in the flyer below to place your order for a family taco meal, by 11am tomorrow. Then, come by the church between 5:30-6:00 and we'll be handing out your food! And, the icing on the cake, 10% of proceeds go into our Outreach fund. Place those orders!

Finally, tomorrow is also the Feast of the Ascension! There will be no noonday prayer, but instead we will do a special live streamed Evening Prayer service at 7:00pm to celebrate.

There are LOTS of ways to be involved in the community tomorrow. On Friday we're back to Noonday Prayer for Fridays with Fred, who will lead prayers from Colorado. And on Sunday, we'll be remembering all of our deceased veterans for Memorial Day. Flags will be placed at the graves this week, just as we would normally do together on Sunday. And we'll have a special guest! The Rev. David Thames, Chaplain USN will be joining Bob and me for the sermon to help us honor and remember those who gave their lives in service.

Stay well, my friends, and I hope to see a bunch of you IN PERSON tomorrow evening for tacos!

Forming Disciples - Adult Study
Tuesday we will begin a Bible study of the book of Psalms, teaming up with Galilee and Eastern Shore Chapel to do a six-week study. Every Tuesday we will release a 15 minute teaching by email, FaceBook and YouTube. It will consist of a powerpoint and video that teaches you about a particular type of psalm and some details and questions to ponder about a specific example.

Tomorrow at 11:00AM and again at 8:00PM, we will host ZOOM discussions of yesterday's teaching. Click HERE for yesterday's email with complete information and ZOOM links. This week will be led by Fr. Bob. You will have an opportunity for Q&A and clarification of Tuesday's lesson. Mother Ashley, Father Bob, and the Revs. Cameron Randle from ESC and Andy Buchanan from Galilee will be your teachers.

I'm really excited for you about this endeavor. It only makes sense in this internet environment to pull together resources and give you some new voices to hear.

Order NOW! Feast of the Ascension and feasting on FOOD! Pop-up Tacos!
A really cool (or moderately spicy) idea from Emmanuel Church in Kempsville will happen tomorrow, 21 May at ODEC. MOE's Southwest Grill is making a night of eating together (separately) healthy, safe and fun - and for a good cause.

See below for details. You may order a full meal for just yourself, or a full family. A safe drive-through pickup here at ODEC will allow us to SEE so many of you. And 10% goes to our Outreach Funds.  Call Moe's (Kempsville) 757-495-950 NLT 11:00am tomorrow to place your order!

Best of ALL... That day is the Feast of the Ascension. We will move our Noonday prayers to a special service for 7:00PM online. You can get your food, return home and prop up your feet as we reflect on this important FEAST day in the church year.

Pentecost Sunday - We Need You!
The Gospel read simultaneously in multiple languages is one of our important and impressive parts of our Pentecost celebration. This year will be different and we need your help! Links are included below for the Gospel reading (John 20:19-23) in many different languages.  Please record yourself (one person per video), and send to  Mother Ashley  or the  Parish Office . If there is a language not listed that you wish to read,  email Gretchen .

If you are able to read more than one foreign language aloud, please do more than one!   If you have family members that don't attend ODEC and would like to read, we would love that! Students - we know you take foreign languages in school! Those who are new attendees - join in! Former members - we'd love to see you! Overseas folks - show us your faces! Far away folks - just do it! Your submission does not need to be perfect - we are planning something special and need everyone to participate - also in English!

To remind:
  • Wear Red for your video!
  • One person per video (don't worry - you will NOT be singled out!)
  • Camera in portrait setting (not landscape)
  • Submit your video by Tuesday, 26 May, or sooner!
  • Also wear Red  on the day of Pentecost!

Looking for something to do? We need weeding accomplished in the bricked area in front of the church, and in the sitting area beside the Day School entrance. Perhaps these could be done by a family, and maybe even bring a picnic to enjoy the fresh air. If you are interested, please contact Stuart Forbes, chair of Buildings and Grounds. Be sure to bring your own gloves, yard implements and bags.

Stewardship

Please remember your staff and clergy are working hard to help us all live in community and be faithful. To do this requires everyone to contribute and participate, and that includes finances. If you normally only contribute to your pledge or make donations when you are in Church, please make an effort now to contribute online, through your bank, or mail in your donation. Our website has a link for Giving. Feel free to email the office if you need help.
