A voice for the Students

Engineering Student Government serves many different roles. From running events to advocating for new academic policies to improving North Campus' sustainability efforts, ESG works to improve student life here at the University of Michigan. Above all, though, our mission is to make your voices heard. At its heart, student government exists to give students a plataform to take charge of their own college experience, and shape our campus for the better. ESG is committed to working for the students of the College of Engineering. Here are just some ways to connect with ESG and make your mark on campus.

Student Life Committee

SLC is working to gather and organize the student input from all of our What to Fix events. With this input, ESG can implement and prioritize initiatives that students will benefit from the most. Some current initiatives the committee is working on include adding/fixing the flags in Pierpont, creating a survey to build a database of 300 level and humanities courses that Engineers can take and have enjoyed, and purchasing activities for North Campus like volleyball and spikeball.

Major Events Committee

The Major Events committee has been working hard to put together engaging and fun events for the Engineering community. We try to have tabling events at least once a month with free food and information about our current initiatives so we can better serve the student body. We've been listening to your suggestions, and all ESG events will now include tea! Additionally, we are always trying to incorporate healthy and sustainable options at our events such as fresh fruit and zero-waste options. If you are interested in joining the Major Events Committee, please contact Meredith Allen (merallen@umich.edu).

Graduate Student Affairs Committee

The newly formed Graduate Student Affairs Committee (GSAC) is meant to provide a space for graduate students to voice their concerns and propose resolutions that benefit the College of Engineering community! This semester, the committee is focused on cultivating community among graduate student organizations within the College of Engineering. If you are interested in joining GSAC, please contact our committee chair Angelica Okorom (angokoro@umich.edu ) for more information!

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee is striving to raise awareness of sustainable practices on North Campus. We hope to make our presence known as a resource and agent of change and to ensure that as we grow and establish ourselves, we are pursuing the interests of the engineering student body. We will continue our composting table once or twice a month to promote awareness of best composting practices. Additionally, we will host another movie night this semester! Join us at Springfest this spring to ask questions, get more involved, play some fun games, and win some fun prizes!
