We're back! As of January 18, 2021, the Indian Valley Public Library’s building is open for business. We invite you to come into the library for up to 30 minutes - to find the books and other items you want to take home or ask specific questions of our staff. For your safety and the safety of the staff, we are taking the following measures:
Masks are required at all times. No exceptions.
We all practice social distancing.
Return all items to the outside book drop before entering the building.
Limit of 45 people in the library at any given time. Depending on how busy the library is, you may have to wait outside of the library until others leave.
Computer sign-ups are limited to one hour a day per person per day.
We are unable to accept book donations at this time.
Curbside Pickup will continue for your convenience even when we are open. There are no Study Room reservations available at this time.

Celebrating Black History Month!
February is Black History Month and IVPL has put several books that celebrate black artists, musicians, and creators on display near the front desk. We have many more in the library. Please do not hesitate to ask one of our librarians if you need assistance finding them.
The artwork in this display was done by artist and staff member Jael Lunsford, who is teaching two drawing classes this month. Details below in the Young Adults section.

Starting in December, we began highlighting one of the many online resources that we provide for you, our patrons, each month. Today, we bring you Acorn TV!
Are you a TV buff that's watched everything your streaming services have to offer? Give Acorn TV a shot. Acorn TV is an American subscription video streaming service offering television programming from the United Kingdom, as well as Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Mexico.

Generations of Indian Valley is offering a variety of virtual programs for older adults. They would love for any IVPL members to "Zoom" on over to their website to check out these offerings. Regular programs include fitness, games, health and wellness presentations, memoirs, cooking demos, trivia, technology training, and more. Special programs for February such as Preparing Your Home for the Spring Market and Home Organizing presentation will be also be featured. Most virtual programs are offered at no charge, with donations gladly accepted to help support those offerings. Generations is offering drive-through take-out meals for those 60 years and older on Wednesdays and Fridays. Reservations are required. New Year, New Reads Winter Reading Challenge for Adults challenges patrons to read outside their comfort zone, with the goal of broadening understanding of others and providing insight into different cultures, opinions, and perspectives. Between January 4 and March 31, read or listen to 8 or more books and you will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card from a local business. Register here.
Longwood Gardens' Community Read
IVPL is participating in Longwood Gardens' Community Read program. This year's book of choice is The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man's Love Affair with Nature by J. Drew Lanham. Print copies of the book may be reserved here. The library will be hosting discussions of the book and is planning other related programs this Spring, such as Exploring Parks & Forests - February 11 and Gardens of Cornwall and Devon - March 8.

Five Hundred Miles Up the Nile: A Journey Into Modern Ancient Egypt

Cozy Up with a Book Winter Reading Challenge (Grades 6-12)

As the weather gets colder, it's time to cozy up with a good book. Young people in grades 6-12 are invited to log their minutes read and/or complete activities in order to earn badges.
