Virtual stories edition

We are pleased that the Premier has announced that NSW libraries are able to begin reopening from 1 June. Our focus remains on the health and safety of our community, and we will provide further information on what these announcements and strict measurements mean for our libraries next week. We also have a renovation surprise for our members at Concord Library which may slightly delay its reopening. Please keep an eye out for details about reopening in our next enewsletter.

In the meantime, our innovative staff continue to bring programs and services into your homes. This week's edition celebrates virtual stories with the annual National Simultaneous Storytime, our new Facebook live streaming of Storytime at Wellbank Children's Centre in Concord, and our latest staff pick.

We are also very proud to unveil a first for the City of Canada Bay - a virtual walking tour with our Local Studies Librarian that offers an exploration of Majors Bay Road and surrounds. We are pleased to see the virtual tour already fully booked, and invite those who missed out to look out for the next one.

City of Canada Bay Libraries

Together with the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), we want to find out what new library members have loved and what existing library users have missed during COVID-19. The results will be used to show government how important libraries are for Australia. Please answer three questions - you don't need to tell us who you are, just your postcode. Thank you for your support!

In a first for the City of Canada Bay, participants can join us from the comfort of their home and learn about why Majors Bay Road was given its name and how it transformed from what was once countryside, to residential, and into the business hub we now know.

Some businesses have been operating for over 70 years - can you guess which ones? Did you know lollies were the big hit in the early 1930's with five lolly shops in the main street? Concord even had a brush with royalty with a visit from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

We are looking forward to this exciting exploration of our much loved Majors Bay Road and surrounds in this digital walking tour. Although the tour filled up quickly after tickets were released, we'll have more virtual walking tours available in the near future.
