NAECR Knowledge/Networking combined event
explores collaboration methods during the pandemic
|
|
The second combined NAECR Knowledge/Networking event of the fall explored how early childhood researchers have adjusted ways they initiate, maintain and address research partnerships in the time of COVID-19.
The Nov. 4 virtual conversation focused on how research relationships and collaboration have evolved in recent months during the pandemic — and some of the innovative ways researchers have overcome obstacles to forge ahead with their work.
|
|
Because most in-person collaboration has been put on hold during the pandemic, innovative methods are being developed to initiate and maintain research partnerships.
|
|
Researchers and community partners discussed effective ways they have approached and initiated partnerships, including some of the do’s and don’ts to keep in mind. Community partners offered suggestions about how researchers could support their program.
Participants also discussed opportunities that have emerged during the pandemic.
The event’s featured presenters included:
- Jorja Brazda-Witters, early childhood coordinator, Omaha Public Schools
- Danae Dinkel, associate professor, University of Nebraska Omaha
- Leslie Eastman, director of assessment and evaluation, Lincoln Public Schools
- Sue Obermiller, early childhood programs director, Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership
- Abbie Raikes, associate professor and director of Global Early Childhood Development, University of Nebraska Medical Center
NAECR Networking and NAECR Knowledge are an ongoing series of networking and training events designed to enhance early childhood research across the NU system. The series will resume in early 2021.

Research opportunities available at UNK's
Plambeck Early Childhood Education Center
|
|
The Plambeck Early Childhood Education Center at the University of Nebraska Kearney opened last year and provides high-quality learning and instruction for UNK and the Kearney community. The center features 11 classrooms where teachers provide developmentally appropriate early education for children from infancy to age 6, including those with special needs. The center also includes a Montessori classroom.
The Plambeck Center has opportunities for researchers in need of early childhood participants — children, families and teachers — for their work, and can support the collection of surveys, questionnaires and live or recorded observations. Interested researchers should complete a research request on the center's website.
Email Philip Lai, research director of the Plambeck Early Childhood Education Center, at laipt@unk.edu with any questions.
