A Message from Fr Brad

Advent: the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.

Although when we hear the word advent we think of this current season we are in that precedes Christmas, there are many "advents" (according to the dictionary definition) that we may experience in our lives.

I have experienced one of these advents recently in my life in the marriage to Ms. Pepsi.

( I think that a wedding qualifies as a notable event...)

It is a newness in life that changes what was before.

Although we had been dating for well over two years and known one another for some three years more than that, being married is still new.

There are not two separate households.
There are not two separate directions for finances.
There are not two separate plans for the year.
There is one.
This is new.
For me and for Pepsi.

And in this newness is an opportunity to make adjustments to what wasn't working and keep the things that were working well.

We have been going through Pepsi's belongings from her house to find the right place for them in OUR home.

We set up the Christmas tree yesterday afternoon and talked about what WE wanted to do with the tree and how we wanted to decorate it.

This can require some work to adjust to the newness and live as one instead of two.

I think, though, that we will be okay.

We in the Church are in this season of Advent as both a remembrance of the birth of Jesus and a reminder that He will come again.

It is both a reminder of the state of newness we enjoy because of the birth of Jesus as well as a reminder of the "New Heavens and New Earth" yet to be when we enter into eternity with God.

And it is in this "newness" that we are reminded to live.
A newness that calls us to abandon the old self for a new life in Jesus.
A new life that has as its goal a total redemption of the life of every believer in the Body of Christ to their fulness in Christ.

But what if we don't remember that we are called to live in this newness of live and the advent of Jesus?

Let me relate it back to my example of marriage.

It would be like Pepsi and me operating as two single people when we are in fact married. Why would we ever do that?

And why would we ever live as someone who did not know the newness of Jesus through His Advent if we, in fact, already know this?

Let us not miss out on this blessing for ourselves and remind our loved ones about this also.

Peace,

brad+

O Come All Ye Faithful

with Heather Certik

Advent offers us an opportunity to make space in the “mangers of our lives" for the God who is always coming to us, seeking our attention and devotion and offering us new life.

Before you face the onslaught of our culture’s Christmas, please join us in the Sunday Forum. We will utilize the insights of Carl Jung and St. Ignatius as we explore and share our own experiences of this sacred journey.

This 6-week series from 12/1/19 to 1/5/20, Advent to Epiphany, will be facilitated by Heather Certik ( heatherrose488@gmail.com or 530-432-6957).
As you know, our Forum time together is limited, so please come and settle in as quickly as you can. We will begin at 9:45.

The Annual Holy Trinity Advent Dinner
Our dear friends,
What an evening and what a lovely gift to the congregation as we begin the season of Advent, looking forward to the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
There’s not enough room to thank everyone for their hard work. Please forgive me if we did forget someone, it’s certainly not intentional. Special thanks to Terry, Midge and Grace for preparing our wonderful dinner, to Christie for the cheesecakes and supplies, to Sarah for everything she does, Kay, Judi and Norma for the decorations, Ed and Tony for manning the wine bar, Sherry, Joy, Debbie, Blue, Trish, Carol, Jeff and Paula for setting up and serving, to Karen for the phenomenal “silent auction”, to everyone who donated items to be auctioned, and to Todd, Gary, Peggy, Chip, Ed, Barry and Jeff for helping with the cleanup, and to Tina for her music. It’s always a joy to see how everyone else pitches in to help with clean up and put away.
Our hearts are so full of gratitude and overflowing with love that we get to be a part of this group. In our service, we are the hands and feet of Christ. May God continue to bless our Hospitality Fellowship committee, Holy Trinity Parish, and this wonderful community.
With love and blessings of the season to all,
The Holy Trinity Hospitality Committee
