SPECIAL NEWS AND INFORMATION
HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SERVICES
GOOD FRIDAY - APRIL 15
“Good” in the sense that it is, despite all appearances, a holy day, Good Friday sees Christians around the world commemorating the trial and crucifixion of Jesus through fasting, prayer, the Stations of the Cross, communal worship, and meditation. We sit with the disciples in their fear and confusion, and we sit with our own wonder and discomfort that Jesus would willingly allow himself to be humiliated, tortured, and executed.

The Service
Worship takes place at noon in the sanctuary at Watauga Avenue, and will be led by members of both churches, along with Pastors Maggie and Sharon. This service will balance scripture reading with prayer and music, while leaving plenty of room for silent meditation.

EASTER SUNDAY - APRIL 17
He is Risen!
He is Risen indeed!

If you are like me, you associate Easter Sunday services with the loud, glorious, triumphant singing of the beloved hymns of the day – and the more music the better! Come to hear the story of the empty tomb and the astonished disciples and celebrate what is surely the greatest miracle of all: death and fear and suffering have lost their power over us.

Join your church family in the sanctuary at 11:00 on Easter for the Church’s grandest celebration of the Church year.

GREEN SPACE
This year the Recovering America's Wildlife Act was again introduced in Congress with updated provisions to further protect at-risk wildlife species and recover those already listed under the Endangered Species Act. The legislation would dedicate nearly 41.3 billion annually to states, territories, and Tribes to conserve more than 1,300 wildlife species. The legislation also calls for $97.5 million of the funding to go to Tribal nations for wildlife management and conservation programs on their millions of acres of habitat.

These investments are especially important today, as a recent report concluded that of America's wildlife species are at an increased risk of extinction. Many members of Congress agree. As of October 2021, the bill had strong bipartisan support from at least 125 co-sponsors in the House and 28 in the Senate, showing a widespread commitment to strengthening protections for our nation's wildlife. If passed, this critical legislation will help recover thousands of at-risk species, create jobs, and help communities thrive while preventing extinctions.

50 Ways to Pray: Practices from Many Traditions and Times
By Teresa A. Blythe
(248/BLY)
“It is my hope that this book will provide at least fifty ways you may take steps in a lifelong walk with God. It is written for you, the seeker and sojourner, as well as you, the church leader, youth minister, retreat facilitator, or worship planner. It is for all of us who thought we only knew one way to pray.” --from the introduction.

The explosion of interest today in Christian mystics, ancient prayer practices, and guided meditations speaks to a need for more hands-on tools that will help us pray in traditional as well as new and exciting ways. This book is intended to address that need.

Each of the exercises includes not only instructions on how to use it as a prayer practice, but also some background, an introduction, a statement of intention, and tips to help you become comfortable with the practice. For those of you wanting to lead these practices in a group, there are special instructions and information in the Leader’s Guide at the end of the book.
