How you can participate in
your Neighborhood Council
Stakeholders (those who live, work, own property, or have a substantial community interest within the boundaries of the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council) may come to Board and Committee meetings and speak during the public comment period.

If you have an item of concern that you would like to have discussed by the Board, please email the Board ahead of the scheduled agenda setting meeting so that your item may be considered for the agenda. Please note that the Board may only take action on items on the agenda. The agenda is posted 72 hours in advance of each meeting.

You can also join a Committee and volunteer at events.

Masking Recommendations
With more circulation of the highly transmissible Delta variant, County officials strongly recommend everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks indoors in public places as a precaution. Per the CDC, the Delta variants are now responsible for 1 in 5 new cases across the country.
Fair Share Housing Report
In June, the Planning & Land Use Management Committee and Housing Committee considered a joint report released by City Planning and the Housing + Community Investment Department (HCID) outlining bold strategies to distribute affordable housing more equitably throughout the City. The report proposes the establishment of housing targets by community and other strategies to ensure that equity is at the forefront of future land use considerations.

As part of this effort, City Planning has proposed new rezoning strategies that will focus additional housing capacity in high-opportunity areas with good access to jobs and/or transit, while protecting tenants and vulnerable communities as well as environmentally sensitive areas.

In a show of broad support for City Planning’s short- and long-term policies, following public comment, each Committee independently took action to adopt the Department’s recommendations. Allocating targeted “fair share” zoning obligations by Community Plan area is one of the ways these policies aim to achieve an equitable distribution of affordable housing

Over 40,000 Engaged in Housing Element Concept Outreach
In late 2020 the City launched the “Concepts” phase for the 2021-2029 Housing Element. This plan phase focused on six concepts guiding the Housing Element Update that were drafted based on state law and the feedback City Planning collected during the "Vision" phase of its outreach. The Concepts focus on how the Housing Element will address housing-related issues in the City. All six concepts respond to urgent needs: addressing the housing shortage, advancing racial equity and access to opportunity, and promoting sustainability and resilience.

During this phase the department of City Planning engaged with an unprecedented number of people through several targeted outreach efforts, including three webinars, a statistically valid poll, and a public survey. Each of these is discussed in more detail in the attached PDF. In addition to these efforts the city held a meeting of the full Task Force, attended six Neighborhood Council alliance meetings, and held several smaller stakeholder meetings with community organizations.

About the Housing Element
The Housing Element of the General Plan, also called "the Plan to House LA," identifies Los Angeles’s housing needs and establishes clear goals and objectives to inform future policy considerations. When the update is completed, the Housing Element will guide the creation and implementation of the City's housing policy from 2021 to 2029

About the Safety Element
The Safety Element of the General Plan details Los Angeles’ strategy to prevent, respond to, and recover from disaster events. Recent state legislation requires the city to review and update, as necessary, the Safety Element alongside the Housing Element. As part of the Safety Element 2021 Update the City will integrate targeted amendments into the existing document to better illustrate the City’s approach to disaster management and resilience. More information is included in the Background, Summary of Amendments, and FAQ’s document.

LA Animal Services Offers Tips to Keep You and Your
Pets Safe this 4th of July Holiday Weekend
The 4th of July and the days following are the busiest times at our six LA Animal Services Centers throughout the City. For many pets, the loud booming sounds and the flashing lights of fireworks can be terrifying for dogs and cats causing pets to escape their home or yard in an attempt to look for somewhere safe to hide.

To help ensure Angelenos and their furry family members stay safe this holiday weekend, LA Animal Services teamed up with the Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department, and LA CityView 35 on a joint Public Service Announcement about the dangers illegal fireworks pose to residents and their pets.
