Westland Historical Village is hosting - "Christmas at the Westland Historical Village" on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at 857 N. Wayne Road.  Come have photos with Santa and hear the Caroling Bells sing Holiday Carols dressed as Dicken's Characters.  

"Deck the City Hall" - Join us for the City of Westland's Annual "Deck the City Hall" Event on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  This is a FREE event with fun for the entire family!  Everyone will gather in front of City Hall to sing  carols and welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to Westland.  After they help Mayor Wild light the Official Tree and City Hall grounds, everyone is invited inside for free cookies and hot cocoa.  There will be arts and crafts, as well as supplies to write letters and lists for Santa. Those can then be put in Santa's mailbox that goes right to the North Pole. Children will also have a chance to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  As part of Westland's Compassionate City Initiative, anyone who brings $5.00 per child or $10.00 per family monetary donation for "Shop with a Hero" or an unwrapped toy for the Westland Goodfellows toy drive will get a Fast Pass to see Santa and will be able to skip the line. There will be overflow parking available at JCPenny at Westland Shopping Center and free shuttle buses will be provided.

Curbside Compost is ending the week of December 9, 2019 for the seasonCompost is picked up the same day as regular trash.  Your compost should be separated from your regular trash by 4 feet. Reminder the limit is ten (10) compost bags or five (5) garbage cans, with a weight limit of below 50 pounds.  Just a reminder: compost is garden waste, grass clippings, leaves, hay/straw, pruning debris.  Tree branches need to be cut down to 4 ft. or less and no larger than 3 inches in diameter and put in small bundles and tied with rope or twine.  You may put out 10 bundles per week.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings   - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 
  • The Tax Increment Finance Authority - will hold a meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 8:00 a.m., at Westland City Hall at 36300 Warren Road.  Please click here for the agenda.
Focus:  Hope Senior Food Program - will be on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center located at 31250 Dorsey Road.  The food boxes offer seniors (60 years and older, who meet the federal low-income guidelines), a nutritional low-sodium diet to help supplement their daily food needs.  If a senior meets the eligibility requirements, he/she is able to pick up his/her first month's food on that day.  In order to be certified, a senior must apply in person and bring the following:  proof of age; identification and income, number of people in the household. Westland Community Police Officers Toy Drive Event - The Community Police Officers will be hosting a toy drive at La Tiendita Mexican Restaurant located at 5975 N. Wayne, on December 10, 2019 from Noon - 2:00 p.m.  If you bring a new toy, you can receive a free chicken or steak taco for your donation. 

Friday Nights Glow Skate - Come out for some glow in the dark fun on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:50 p.m. The Mike Modano Ice Arena located at 6210 N. Wildwood, offers glow skating with blacklights and top 40 music playing. Contact (734)729-4560 for more information and pricing. 

City of Westland Marks its 10th year of "Shop and Dine Campaign" with 10K Shopping Spree - Once again, the City of Westland has partnered with WNIC's Jay Towers in the Morning to raffle off a shopping spree to the Westland Shopping Center.  The event will take place on Saturday, December 14 at the Westland Shopping Center, located at 35000 Warren Rd.  Jay Towers will be on site giving away additional prizes and doing a live broadcast from the event.  From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the WNIC team will be handing out raffle tickets for a chance to win a $5,000 shopping spree. Doors to the Westland Shopping Center will open at 7:00 a.m.  At 12:00 p.m. four raffle tickets will be drawn.  Those four winners will take turns opening presents to see who wins the grand prize.  Runner ups will receive gift cards in the amount of $100.  The City of Westland has upped the ante again this year.  Thanks to our partners at Parkside Credit Union we will be raffling off, not one, but TWO $5,000 shopping sprees! In addition to Parkside Credit Union doubling this year's prize offerings, they are also providing individuals with an exclusive opportunity to receive a bonus ticket the week leading up to the event.  If you stop in at any Parkside Credit Union location from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9 through 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13 you can receive an extra ticket to be entered into the final drawing.  There is a one ticket per person limit and no purchase necessary.   All you need for your second chance ticket is a valid driver's license or state I.D. and a valid email address.   Parkside Credit Union Branch Locations   Westland Branch - 1747 S. Wayne County Annual Lightfest has returned for the Holiday Season  - The lightfest runs through  Tuesday, December 31, 2019  the only day it is closed is Christmas Day.  The lightfest drive offers five miles of colorful displays and at the end, visitors can stop and visit Santa's Shelter for refreshments and and photos. For more information please call 734-261-1990.  The fee to drive through the spectacular displays is $5.00 per vehicle.  On December 3, 10 and 17, visitors can donate a new unwrapped toy in lieu of paying the entrance fee.
