"Look Who's Calling"
Mark 1: 14 - 20

The Beginning of the Galilean Ministry
14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”

Jesus Calls the First Disciples
16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

Children's Moment
Parents, read over the lesson below and use it to stir conversation as a family!
In our scripture today we read about Jesus calling His Disciples and teaching them to fish for men! What does all of this mean?
Being a disciple means that you are following Jesus. Jesus is our leader and we are teaching others the way by sharing the love and lessons we learn from Him in the Bible. Once someone learns something new, they are able to do those things on their own and teach another person. This is what Jesus meant by fishing for men, teach someone the way and they will always know and teach another person. Jesus called 12 disciples to help Him spread an important message, "God loves YOU!"

You can be a disciple as well!
Share the message of Gods love with your friends, family and those you meet.

What is something you are really good at? Can you teach it to someone else? How can you use that gift to help others?

Prayer
Dear God, Thank you for teaching us the way and for other disciples that teach me about your love. Help me to follow you by sharing this love with others. Amen.

Youth Mission Trip Update!

Every four years our high school youth set off, on what has historically been an international trip for service and adventure! They spend the four years leading up to this trip, planning and fundraising. As you may know, the youth were scheduled for their international trip to Peru in June of 2020 and it was postponed for the summer of 2021 due to the pandemic. Since then, the PCUSA has cancelled all international travel for the year of 2021. Although the trip to Peru has been cancelled, the youth and their leaders are hopeful to still create an opportunity for growth through service and adventure while immersing themselves in a culture other than their own. The plans at this time are for the youth to take a trip this summer to the Pacific Northwest, spending time exploring trails and sea kayaking; and immersing themselves through missions in the Native American communities with Mending Wing for a S.L.A.M. trip. We encourage you to visit these sites to learn more and we ask that you keep this opportunity in your prayers for our youth.
Lunches for our Neighbors UPDATE

We regret to inform everyone that due to the current conditions of the pandemic in Mecklenburg county and the county's recent directive, we feel compelled to modify Lunches for Homeless Neighbors. To avoid contact among people not in the same household, the Lunch Leaders have volunteered to prepare the lunches within their household pods. We will still be providing this important service to our neighbors in January and February! We will continue to hope for better conditions in March and thank everyone for your faithful support of this mission.
