NEW ORLEANS - Congressman Troy Carter (D-LA02) was deeply saddened to learn about the death of Former Lieutenant Governor Jimmy Fitzmorris. Lt. Governor Fitzmorris was a mainstay in Louisiana’s political world and in the community. His contributions to our community are immeasurable. His outstanding leadership, kind heart, and humility is an example for all to follow.
Lt. Governor Fitzmorris served the constituents of Louisiana throughout the state, leaving a profound impact on those he touched along the way. As a lifelong Democrat, he enjoyed attending ribbon cuttings, and many social events, offering greetings and never forgetting a name.
I am humbled to follow in his footsteps, serving the constituents of Louisiana, promoting opportunities to bring businesses to Louisiana, creating that warm hospitable culture that is unique to our region. Serving our area as Councilman, State Legislator and later as Lt. Governor, he created what we currently know as the Tourist Mecca of the South! We especially thank him for his military service to our country – A True Statesman!
We will miss his glorious warm wishes, beautiful handwritten notes of congratulatory wishes, and the support he never failed to deliver. Our prayers are with his daughter, Lisa and the entire family.
