Dear Members,
Now that the Presidential campaign is in full swing, there's more craziness in the news. I don't know if my anxiety level can make it till November - my head might explode!
I have a bad habit of checking the news throughout the day, and I noticed that if I check it right before I go to bed I have a fitful night of anxiety and hardly get any sleep. Just by chance, we came upon what I now consider my anti-anxiety sleeping drug. On YouTube there is a treasure trove of old black and white movies and TV shows that are now in the public domain that you can watch for free. For the past two weeks we've been watching old Alfred Hitchcock TV shows from the 50's, Sherlock Holmes movies from the 40's, and film noir classics from the 40's. So far, everything we've watched has been far superior to anything on TV or Netflix, and I've been sleeping better! There's something soothing about the black and white photography, the well written stories and dialog, and the old cars and scenery. A few of the YouTube channels to check out: PizzaFlix Silver Screen Classics, and Cult Cinema Classics. Don't go to bed angry and riddled with anxiety - find what calms you before you go to sleep! Sleep well,
Donna Catanzaro

Community of Caring Flag Project
The Community of Caring Flags project is a visual representation of our interconnection and commitment to caring for and protecting our community
Why and How the Community of Caring Flag project started
2020 marks a transformative moment in human history, one that underscores our interdependent wellbeing. Our individual actions impact the wellbeing of others directly and indirectly. Inspired by traditional Tibetan Prayer Flags which are intended to bring promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom, this project came out of the PSU Fall 2020 Opening Task Force, Greater Plymouth Community & Alumni Subcommittee working with the Museum of the White Mountains and aims to provide the Plymouth community with an opportunity to share our common fears, to honor the suffering, and to grieve the loss brought on by the pandemic, but also the opportunity for all to help build community and unity between campus and community.
The idea is that people in the community as well as PSU students, faculty, and staff make flags that communicate ideas about dealing with COVID or other social justice issues. We will be sewing the flags together to make a series of "flag streams" that will be hung around town and campus.
Contact Cynthia for more information and specifics
~Cynthia Cutting
*Editor's note: Cynthia's project is designed for the Plymouth community (which doesn't mean you can't participate ) but perhaps you can use it as a model for your community. We all need community support in this time of Covid and social change.

Time to Clear Out The Old!

Saturday & Sunday September 12 & 13, 2020
from 10 am to 2 pm each day.
It will be held outdoor at my old studio (aka Studio A) located at
170 Poor Farm Road in Weare NH.
(Masks will be required!)
I need to find new homes for random art supplies, books, easels, canvases, taborets and other studio odds & ends.
PLUS I will be offering deep discounts on some older paintings and reproductions as part of my effort to make room for the new tenant (aka my husband Chris, who is moving his business into the space.)
(This will be in lieu of my regular open studio this year which I am reluctantly postponing until at least the spring.)

Building Community with Collaborative Art
Gateway Gallery at Great Bay Community College
Portsmouth NH
Collaborative Works Exhibit (virtual and hopefully, live)
Deadline September 21, 2020
A collaborative art project between present and past Fine Art students at Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth and artists in and around New Hampshire, Maine, and Northeastern Massachusetts. Each collaborative group of three will have as participants, a present or past
student at GBCC and two artists from the area.
The basic procedure for the collaboration is this:
*The three members will open up an email dialog. One artist will initiate a work of art that must fit into a specific size envelope which will be provided. The work will be photographed before it departs and be shipped (mailed) or delivered to the second artist within two weeks. Artist number two will add some elements to the work, photograph it before sending to artist number three. Artist number three will add more elements to the work and after photographing will return it to artist number one.
*The initiating artist will "own" the work and be free to make final changes.
*At each stage, the artist must write what kinds of materials are used to insure compatibility and if possible, send a very short statement describing their response.
*Media could be anything two dimensional to include elements of photography, graphic art, printmaking, painting, drawing, etc.
A virtual exhibit on the GBCC website will include images from each stage and the final iteration. The notes along the way can become part of a blog about the project, or be shown as part of the virtual exhibit. We are have high hopes that a real exhibition of these works can be installed at Gateway Gallery in late 2021 or 2022 and then, the participants can meet each other in the real world.
For questions and to participate contact KateHigley at katehigs2017@gmail.com
