Protect Pregnant Workers' Rights
From the ACLU...
Pregnant workers in the U.S. still lack critical protections in the workplace. Too many employers believe they can fire pregnant employees, force them to quit, or take unpaid leave instead of providing temporary accommodations that would allow them to remain productive employees and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

The healthcare system thinks helping women is bad for business
"
Women are receiving lower-quality care and ultimately paying more for care than men, with worse outcomes. This is true of all women, but women who are poor and women of color have
notably worse
experiences with the healthcare system, including
higher death rates
.
We have a healthcare system in place that keeps women sick, uninformed, and at the mercy of a system that was not created to treat her.
It tracks, then, that the healthcare system-and the many stakeholders that profit from it and prop it up, including insurers, providers, and pharma companies-have little motivation to alter their practices.
In other words, the system "works." Not for the people it treats, but it reliably makes money for people who run it. Why would they change it?

The Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health - Callen-Lorde
"
Welcome to the Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health! Callen-Lorde is so proud to offer the first LGBTQ+ health fellowship available to nurse practitioners. The inaugural class of Haring Fellows will start in September, 2020. Applications will be available on January 15, 2020.
Through this fellowship, we strive to create a premier LGBTQ+ healthcare training program that enhances knowledge, increases compassion, and brings awareness to the healthcare barriers that LGBTQ+ communities face. With this training and experience, our fellows will bring the skills they learn with them to help close the gap in health disparities for LGBTQ+ people.
This full-time, 12 month program consists of precepted and independent sessions as well as specialty rotations and didactic portions. Haring Fellows will have benefits and earn a modified salary. The fellowship is designed to give the academically prepared practitioner an opportunity to spend more time under the guidance of a preceptor.
The Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health is funded, in part, through the The Keith Haring LGBTQ+ Health Equity Endowment, which was established at Callen-Lorde by the Keith Haring Foundation in 2019.

EC Vending Machine Project
Seeking Student Activists, Advisory Committee Members
Calling all student activists! Emergency contraception (EC, sometimes called Plan B) is an important option for preventing pregnancy after sex - but it can be difficult to get. One great way to improve access on your campus is to advocate for a
vending machine that includes EC and other sexual health products (like condoms and pregnancy tests) - about 13 campuses have these so far. The American Society for Emergency Contraception is launching a nation-wide project to help students effectively advocate for EC vending machines on their campus. As part of this project, we are developing a toolkit that provides logistical support and policy guidelines for your state. We are also helping to support peer-to-peer EC distribution networks on campuses - if you are interested in creating an EC distribution network on your campus, please complete the form below to join our discussion forum on that topic.
There are two ways for you to be involved:
-
We are launching a communication and collaboration platform so that student activists across the country can share information, support and strategies with each other as they advocate for EC vending machines on their campus. If you're interested in joining this group, please complete this form, and we will include you once the platform is live in early 2020. If you are interested in peer-to-peer EC distribution, please complete the form and indicate that you're interested in joining that group. We welcome students from diverse backgrounds from all types of schools across the country, and we'd love to include people at all stages of this process - including those who are interested but haven't gotten started yet. Please reach out to Kelly Cleland ([email protected]) if you have any questions!
- Apply to join our advisory panel! We are looking for 5 students and
5 staff/faculty from diverse backgrounds, campuses, organizations and geographical areas. Student members will be paid a $1,000 stipend for about 50 hours of participation. Advisory panel members will help us develop the look and feel of the project (website, logo, etc), participate in calls/email discussions as needed, and monitor and engage in discussions in the broader online student activist collaboration forum. Student advisory committee members should be passionate about expanding access to EC on campus, interested in collaborating across campus groups, and planning to graduate no sooner than December 2020 (preferably May 2021). Please apply by January 15, 2020 and share with anyone you know who might be interested! Application links here:

Nurses Change the World Scholar
|
Coming from a low-income immigrant background where one of my parents didn't finish college, my future was uncertain. I didn't know I would have the opportunity to afford higher education and continue my journey to becoming a nurse. Through the toughest times in nursing school, receiving this scholarship motivated me knowing I have the support of my family and the FNSNA to persevere in my nursing education. It has not only affected me, but paved a path that inspired many of my younger family members who look up to me. Because of the Johnson & Johnson Nurses Change The World Scholarship, my story became testament to other minority students and empowered the next generation of student leaders and change agents in nursing. I am forever grateful for the opportunities this scholarship has given me to attend UCLA and afford nursing items such as scrubs, lab packs, and transportation to clinical rotations. Thank you for all you do!
By simply creating a username and password, you can start the process to get on the way for the opportunity to receive assistance in paying for tuition, books and academic fees. The deadline to submit your application is
January 17, 2020 at
11:59 pm EST
. Don't miss an opportunity to receive funding to support your
nursing education.

Profitable Partnerships: Developing the Business Case for
RN Led Interventions in Primary Care
Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 3:00 pm ET

Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, and Other A-List Artists Are Raising Money for Reproductive Rights With a
Provocatively Titled Exhibition
The two-part show is a response to a growing number of laws limiting access to reproductive care across the US.
"
For states around the nation, 2019 was a year of stunningly restrictive abortion legislation. The new laws have faced backlash on the streets and in court-and also in art galleries.
"Ban after ban was coming out," Rebecca Pauline Jampol, co-director of the Newark arts nonprofit
Project for Empty Space, told Artnet News. It was in March and she and her colleague Jasmine Wahi had just heard news that Alabama passed a law essentially making all abortions in the state illegal. "We were feeling really sad and defeated, but we did what we always do and kind of stopped everything to create actionable programming." (PES launched a feminist incubator artist residency and exhibition program in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 presidential election.)
