Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19
How often do you think about your purpose in life? Do you have a clear purpose? Or do you just drift along, dealing with whatever comes your way that day? Many people have earthly purposes, such as earning as much money as possible, gaining notoriety, succeeding at a job, keeping a family going, etc. But how many of us have a Christian purpose in life?
Do you ever stop and think, “I haven’t followed Jesus' directive to spread the word to others, and I feel guilty over that”? What’s in the past is past, and I can’t do anything about it. But I can do something about it going forward. I can decide today to focus on a Christian purpose for the rest of my life.
Not everyone is inclined – physically or financially – to become a missionary overseas. Not everyone can drop everything and go to seminary. But what can I do that is within my reach, my means, and my capabilities at this point in life?
Here are some ideas: First, you can become more active in your church family. You can volunteer. There are many opportunities at All Saints, for example, to volunteer to serve God and your church family. I promise that you will get much more in return than you ever give.
Second, you can spread God’s love through your demeanor, your actions, and your words. Have you ever looked at someone and seen the love, warmth, and Christian purpose just exuding from them? You can be that person. The change starts on the inside and will soon be seen outwardly. You have no idea how much influence you can have on others by shining His light wherever you go.
Maybe you need to choose a Christian purpose, or maybe you have one, and it just needs a reboot. Let’s commit today to put more focus on our Christian purpose. It will make a huge difference in our lives and the lives of others.
God bless you!
