SAN FERNANDO SPOTLIGHT PROGRAMS
FAMILY-FRIENDLY FUN
The RCS Department is hosting a “Pokemon Go-style” Treasure Hunt via the Agents of Discovery App. Participants will need to download the app to a smart phone. The treasure hunt will take place at Pioneer Park and residents will have access to the Hunt the entire month of July 2021. Light-up and glow-in-the-dark prizes will be given to participants who find the hidden “treasures.”

SUMMER DAY CAMP
The City is offering a limited Summer Day Camp this summer. SPACE IS LIMITED and will be on a first come, first served basis.

ALL INDIVIDUALS AGE 12 AND OLDER ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE VACCINATED
VACCINATION CLINICS IN SAN FERNANDO

  • San Fernando Park (208 Park Ave., San Fernando): This site is closing soon, make your appointment today! Moderna, Pfizer, and Janssen J&J vaccinations are offered Mondays through Saturdays, from 8 am to 8 pm. No appointment required. Residents may register online at CarbonHealth.com/COVID-19-Vaccines/Los-Angeles.
  • Kidneys Quest Foundation: On July 25, 2021, there will be a mobile vaccination clinic offering the Pfizer vaccine. Residents may register online at MyTurn.ca.gov or call (818) 521-6348. Walk-ups are welcome.
  • Providence Community Health Vaccination Clinic at Vaughn International Studies Academy: There will be a mobile vaccination clinic every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Residents may call (818) 847-3860 to schedule an appointment.
  • San Fernando Community Health Center and Northeast Valley Health Corporation: Both of these federally qualified health centers receive a limited supply of vaccine. Residents may contact the following vaccination hotlines for additional information:

FREE COVID-19 TESTING SITE AT RECREATION PARK
A free testing site for COVID-19 is available at San Fernando Recreation Park (208 Park Avenue) Monday through Saturday, from 8 am to 4 pm. Pre-registration is recommended, but San Fernando residents may also register on site.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER ORDER & MASKING GUIDANCE HAVE CHANGED!
On July 16, 2021, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health revised the Health Officer Order, effective 11:59 pm on July 17, 2021.

Modifications to the Health Order:

  • Requires face masks to be worn by all persons, regardless of vaccination status, while in all indoor public settings and businesses.

  • Continues to urge everyone, especially those who are not or cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19, to continue to exercise caution and good judgement as community transmission of COVID-19 is rapidly increased from low to substantial transmission in one month.

LOS ANGELES REGIONAL FOOD BANK
The Regional Food Bank distribution was held on July 6, 2021, at Las Palmas Park. This monthly drive-through Food Bank distribution continues to serve seniors age 60+ on the first Monday of every month at Las Palmas Park. The program provides a free food kit containing nutritious items such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, cereals and grains and serves an average of 150 seniors each month.

SUMMER YOUTH SPORTS CLINICS
The Summer Sports Clinics kicked-off in July 2021! The clinic series are designed to reintroduce the community to formal in-person programming. Baseball, Basketball and Soccer clinics will be offered for children ages 3 1/2 to 13 at Las Palmas and Pioneer Parks. Online registration for the August clinics is open through August 13, 2021.

SUMMER FITNESS SESSION
The Outdoor Fitness Program has come to an end as the summer heatwave begins to roll in. The Recreation and Community Services (RCS) Department offered Zumba, Cardio Salsa, and Yoga "al fresco" by using the outdoor spaces at City parks.

The RCS Department is currently planning the return of indoor fitness classes in late July 2021 or early August 2021, pending the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation's release of the "Best Practices" protocols for reopening recreation centers and indoor programming.

ADULT SPORTS RETURNS
The RCS Department has been working to resume Adult sports leagues in the fall! Adult Coed Softball and Men's Wooden Bat leagues are set to lead the way as San Fernando moves forward with in-person programming.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY
In honor of Father’s Day, RCS staff dedicated June’s Wellness Wednesday to the male population. Each Wednesday in June 2021 focused on activities for men.

Coffee with the Supervisor on June 9, 2021, offered an opportunity for men to meet and greet the Las Palmas Park Supervisor, Juan Salas. Participants discussed a variety of topics while enjoying a great cup of coffee, sweet bread and great company. Lakers Loteria was held on June 16, 2021 and Stretch and Balance was held on on June 23, 2021.

Classes were offered outdoors and in-person, following safety protocols such as social distancing, wearing a face covering and limiting the number of participants.

FATHER'S DAY DRIVE-THRU SHAVING KIT DISTRIBUTION
Las Palmas Park hosted a Father’s Day Shaving Kit distribution on June 21, 2021. This drive-through event was sponsored by the Las Palmas Senior Citizen’s Club in order to honor dad’s with a nice gift. The event was a great success with approximately 30 participants

BINGO NIGHT FOR SENIORS
Las Palmas Park hosted a tropical themed, in-person Bingo Night on June 24, 2021. Approximately 25 participants played bingo in the newly renovated banquet room. Prizes included gift cards for Target, Subway, and more. Look for more in-person activities coming up in the next few weeks. Be sure to register early as capacity is limited!

CRAFT FOR SENIORS
Las Palmas Park hosted an outdoor craft activity for seniors on June 10, 2021. The group of seniors gathered at the Picnic Pavillions with staff member, Jenniffer Moreno, leading the class. Each participant was provided with materials to create a distinctive pencil holder made from popsicle sticks. The result was an array of colorful pencil holders and the opportunity for seniors to tap into their creativity. Look for more senior craft classes in the weeks to come!

TUTČINT YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
The Tutčint Youth Empowerment Program is now in its fourth cohort with a total of 27 participants enrolled, and eight returning youth in the program. Services offered include academic support, cultural programming, outdoor environmental stewardship, and case management services.

Cultural Programming during June 2021 focused on the theme “Mental/Emotional Wellness.” The team supported youth by providing information on the local Tataviam Tribe and its history in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope valleys, LGBTQ+ Ally Training with Somos Familia de Valle, and a presentation by THEGRT818ERS: United in Movement.

Staff, youth and their families attended two events:

  • Tait Ranch, in Frazier Park, to learn about the Lummi Nation’s Totem Pole gifted to the Biden Administration on its “Red Road to DC” journey. 
  • San Buenaventura State Beach with Alan Salazar, Chumash/Tataviam Elder, who gave a presentation on the Chumash tribe’s annual community Tomol crossing to Santa Cruz Island.

The Summer portion of the program began June 29, 2021, and offers five weeks of activities, events, and a summer reading program for youth ages 13-17 years of age.

PARKS, WELLNESS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
The Parks, Wellness and Recreation Commission met on June 8, 2021, via Zoom. During the meeting, Commissioner Sandie Richards announced she is relocating and will no longer serve on this Commission. Ms. Richards has served as both Chair and Vice Chair of the PWRC during her tenure. Her enthusiasm, commitment and valuable input to this community will be truly missed. Ms. Richards was recognized at the June 21, 2021 City Council Meeting with a certificate of appreciation. The City Council and City staff thanked her for her contributions and wished her well on her new venture.

Meetings are live streamed via Youtube and the next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 6:30 pm. Meeting agendas and audio/video is available on the City website at SFCITY.ORG/Commissions-Board/#Parks-Wellness-Recreation.
HOMELESS OUTREACH SERVICE TEAM (HOST) PROGRAM
On June 2, 2021, the Police Department, in conjunction with Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), conducted a HOST detail and contacted 10 homeless individuals from 24 different locations through-out the City. The Police Department and LAHSA are currently working with the 10 individuals to locate housing, medical ,and other resources.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT SUSPECT
On June 21, 2021, the Police Department received a wanted bulletin from the Los Angles Police Department (LAPD) regarding information of a suspect and vehicle involved in catalytic converter theft in LAPD Mission and Foothill Divisions, as well from the City of San Fernando. At approximately 1:45 pm, San Fernando Police Officers located the suspect and vehicle in the area of Maclay St. and Foothill Blvd. The suspect was arrested for the thefts, as well as possession of methamphetamine. The District Attorney's Office will be filing criminal charges against the suspect.
CRITICAL MISSING PERSON
On June 3, 2021, at approximately 3:00 pm, the Police Department responded to a critical missing adult who was was last seen in the area of San Fernando Mission Blvd. and Pico St. A coordinated search effort was conducted by the Police Department, notifying the surrounding police agency’s and the media. LAPD located the missing person and transported her to Pacifica Hospital for medical evaluation. She and her family were later reunited.
VEHICLE PURSUIT
On June 18, 2021, at approximately 9:50 am, Officers attempted to stop a reckless driver in the area of the 700 block of S. Workman Street. The driver failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in the area of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Paxton St., where the suspect fled on foot through-out the park. The Police Department's Canine Unit was deployed and apprehended the suspect, with minimal amount of forced used. During the investigation, Officers discovered that the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and property that was recovered from the vehicle (and the suspect), was stolen during a robbery. This investigation is ongoing in an attempt to locate additional victims.
KIDNAPPING
On June 11, 2021, at approximately 8:00 pm, domestic violence circumstances led to a kidnapping in the area of the 800 block of N. Huntington Street. Upon receiving a witness report, the Police Department immediately conducted a search of the area and located the uncooperative victim. With the witness's help and other investigative resources, responding Officers and Detectives located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. The suspect was arrested for kidnapping and domestic violence.
ARSON AND ARREST
On June 24, 2021, at approximately 6:10 am, the Police Department received a call of a possible structure fire in the 1300 block of Truman St. Upon their arrival, responding Officers discovered a structure on fire and notified the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The structure was heavily damaged, but no injuries occurred.

During the subsequent investigation, it was determined that arson was the cause of the fire. San Fernando Police Officers detained a male suspect in the area who admitted to the arson. The suspect was arrested for felony arson and transported to the Police Station.
SAFE AND ACTIVE STREETS IMPLEMENTATION PLAN POP-UP
A special pop-up event was held on June 26, 2021, in the San Fernando Mall and the City’s project team for the Safe and Active Streets Implementation Plan conducted another community outreach event to solicit feedback on design elements that residents would like to see to promote walking and biking throughout the City. This event marks the first time that the team was able to capture all of the information that was gathered from residents during the six walk audits and two bike audits during May 2021 and June 2021. The pop-up event allowed residents to receive information on the developing bike/walk network in the City, as well as work with the team on design exercises and provide comments on features that prioritize active transportation.
PLANNING AND PRESERVATION COMMISSION

  • At its regular meeting on June 14, 2021, the Planning and Preservation Commission had a number of presentations that ranged from updates on the Parking Management Master Plan, the Commission's role as the Tree Commission, and The Commission's goals and objectives for Fiscal Year 52021-2022.

WATER BILLS
The City of San Fernando WILL NOT be disconnecting any customers’ water and WILL BE waiving all late fees due to limited access to City Hall. If you are behind in your account, the City encourages you to set-up a payment plan, if possible. If your water bill is due, currently, there are three payment options:

  1. By Mail: City of San Fernando, 117 Macneil Street, San Fernando, CA 91340.
  2. Night Dropbox: Located outside City Hall’s main entrance on the right-hand side. Place your payment in an envelope and put it in the drop box. NO CASH PLEASE. Payments received in the drop-box will be processed by 9:00 am the next business day.
  3. AutoPay: Available to all City of San Fernando water customers. It is a direct debit program that works with your bank for a quick and simple way to pay your utility bill electronically. Click Here to download an AutoPay Application.

ALARM PERMIT RENEWALS
The 2021-2022 Alarm Permit Renewals have been mailed to all businesses and residences with an active alarm permit on file. The deadline to submit renewal payment is August 31, 2021.

Conducting City Council and Commission meetings in-person in the Council Chambers (117 Macneil Street, San Fernando) have resumed. Meeting attendees will be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while in the Council Chambers. SAN FERNANDO CITY HALL: Effective April 19, 2021, San Fernando City Hall reopened to the public Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. City Hall will remain closed on Fridays and certain services will be by appointment only until further notice.

SAN FERNANDO POLICE DEPARTMENT:
  1. Records Bureau: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm;
  2. Detective Bureau: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm; and
  3. Livescan Services continue have resumed: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm
  4. Court Commitment Services has resumed: Call the Police Department to schedule.

RECREATION FACILITIES: Both recreational facilities (Las Palmas Park, located at 505 S. Huntington St., San Fernando; and Recreation Park, located at 208 Park Ave., San Fernando) remain closed to the public. Outdoor Fitness classes, including Zumba and Total Body Conditioning, began at Las Palmas Park.
