Beginning February 22, Middle School students in grades 6-8 will transition to the Hybrid learning model at 50 percent capacity. Students will either attend class in-person two days per week or continue in distance learning from home. Students with last names that start with A-K will attend class in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays, while students with last names that start with L-Z will attend class in-person on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain a Student Feedback Day at the Middle School.

To plan for this return, students and families have the opportunity to change their selection of educational delivery models. PLEASE NOTE: This change will be in place for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. IF STUDENTS/FAMILIES DON’T WISH TO MAKE A CHANGE to the learning model previously selected, NO ACTION IS REQUIRED.

To make a change for your student(s), please click here to complete a CHANGE FORM. The deadline to complete the Change Form is Sunday, February 7, 2021.
The health and safety of students and families is of utmost importance; please do not hesitate to contact the Middle School directly at 952-928-6300 if you have any questions or concerns.
Free Dental Event
“Give Kids a Smile” is here again! Through this program, dental professionals in Minnesota provide free dental care to children once a year. This year’s event will take place on Friday, February 5th and on Saturday, February 6th. Check out the following website to register to get dental care. Services offered may vary by clinic.

No eligibility questions will be asked to seek care. Patients younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian to receive dental care.

If someone you are working with needs assistance or translation services, please call United Way 2-1-1 (or 800-543-7709), where Information and Referral Specialists can assist you in Hmong, Somali and Spanish Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The specialists there can place a three-way call to the dental clinic and assist you in making an appointment. (This information is also available via the above website.)
Immunization Reminder
St. Louis Park Public Schools requires compliance with the Minnesota State Immunization Law (M.S. 121A.15). In anticipation of middle school students returning to in-person learning, your student must be up-to-date on immunizations, or provide the appropriate legal exemption form. Your student will not be able to attend school in-person until the appropriate documentation is provided.

If you have questions please contact the health office at 952-928-6311.
A Note from the School Resource Officer
Families-
I just want to remind you about the usage of electronic devices and our students. Please check on what your student(s) are doing on their cellphones, social media accounts and all other electronic devices.
Please remember that there are adults that use platforms that are intended for our students to gain their trust for not the right reasons.
A few helpful tips:
  • Turn off the location feature on your student’s accounts.
  • Do not list where the student lives, what school they attend or any other personal information on the “About Me” section of accounts.
  • Make accounts private (including yours).
  • Know who is on your students Friend’s List and who they are communicating with.
  • Know all your student’s passwords and login information. This information can be useful for you or myself if access to your student’s accounts is needed.

I also have gently used clothes and shoes along with new hats, gloves/mittens and socks in my office. At times I will have food and feminine hygiene products available.
If you need any of these items, please get in contact with me. STEP is also another good resource if you are a St. Louis Park resident.

Thank you all! I am excited to have students back in the building. My office is always open for you and your student(s). I am located in the front office area.

Thank you.

Last spring, we SOLD OUT of the historic yearbooks and we expect this to happen again this year – please make sure to pre-order online before February 19 to be guaranteed a book in the spring. After this date, there are no guarantees since we place our final book order to Jostens.

SLP MS Theater
The show will go on...but with a minor delay!! SLP MS Theater has run into some technical difficulties and will be postponing our presentation of the show 10 Ways to Survive Life In a Quarantine (one-act): A Stay-At-Home Play by Don Zolidis. While the actors are ready to go, the streaming and ticket sales hit a snafu, which is pretty on brand for life in a quarantine anyway... think of it as an immersive theatrical experience! We hope to have tickets available next week for shows streaming February 18-21, so keep your eyes out for more info!! Thanks for your understanding and ongoing support of our theater community! I can't wait for you to enjoy this truly hilarious production, made even better by our amazing actors. Now, if we can just upload the Zoom recording to the streaming site to the microwave to the electric blanket to the....

Being Organized & Fighting Procrastination
The first round was a success so our building substitute, Ms. Gutz, is hosting another round of sessions on Being Organized & Fighting Procrastination. There will be five topics total and each topic will be offered twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Every session is open to all students to join as they are able. These are optional, but highly recommended as we all continue to navigate school during a pandemic.

8th Grade Community Project Update
Staff across grade levels and job descriptions are excited about working with our 8th grade students on their community projects. Students' voice and agency is valued on our campus and this capstone project is one way that it comes through! On Tuesday, February 9, students should check for an email from their new supervisor with some information about the first coaching session. That first coaching session will most likely be on Wednesday, February 10. The first meeting with the supervisor will include greetings, setting norms and thinking about the project goal.

Please talk with your 8th grader about their ideas, their group, and their dreams related to this project. We're excited about all the possibilities.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

National School Counseling Week
National School Counseling Week, "School Counselors: All In for All Students," is February 1-5, and is intended to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
Thank you to all St. Louis Park school counselors for the impact you have on our students and their success!
Check out books from the LMC
Check out books from the St. Louis Park Middle School library media center! Students can check out books and pick them up "curbside" (in the front entrance foyer). Book requests and holds can be made via our Destiny Catalog online. Instructions for how to request and hold books can be found here. We have many new books and thousands upon thousands of great middle school books both in English and Spanish. Students can check out books for pleasure reading and/or for school assignments using our new system.
Also, any overdue books need to be returned before new books can be picked up (or these books can be renewed for another two weeks by requesting this by email). Thank you!
Please contact Greg Holmbeck, library media specialist, or Diane Vig with questions at [email protected] and [email protected], respectively.
Happy Reading!!
