BIANNUAL NEWSLETTER
It goes without saying that this year has been unlike any other and we hope that everyone has been staying safe and healthy. The unexpected loss of Jane Mehaffey, a long time board member and dear friend, was devastating for our ACW family. Jane was an avid advocate for the animals and helped our organization in countless ways. She will be greatly missed by all of us. She embodied everything ACW stands for and we hope that our beloved friend and colleague will join us in spirit as we continue our mission. 
Although we had to delay our plans for our 50th anniversary celebration, we still hope that we will be able to bring everyone together in 2021. We simply can’t pass up the opportunity to acknowledge such a momentous occasion and we all need something uplifting to celebrate. We feel it is better late than never so we will keep you posted on upcoming events as they become available.
This year did bring some good news though. We have already placed 117 dogs and 66 cats into loving forever homes giving 183 homeless pets the second chance they deserve. This adoption figure is amazing for this time of the year and we are excited to watch this number rise as 2020 comes to a close. We hope these numbers brighten everyone’s day
as we near over 200 adoptions for the year!
Aside from adoption, there are also some great ways that you can help ACW this year. Give Big Pittsburgh
is upon us and it is a wonderful way to support our rescue. By donating at www.givebigpittsburgh.com between now and 12/31/20, you can help an animal in need. Thank you to everyone who already donated on Giving Tuesday! Your generous donations
go directly to help homeless pets in need by covering everyday living expenses
and funding the costs of medical treatment, our adoption program and
low cost spays and neuters.
You can also shop on Amazon Smile where 0.5% of eligible purchases is donated to your favorite charitable organization at no extra cost! It is an easy way to help our pets when you are doing your holiday shopping.

We want to send out a big thank to our newest partner, Healthy Pet Products. Their generous food donations have greatly helped us during these trying times and we greatly appreciate their support this year. They have also opened their doors for us to showcase some of our adoptable pets. They have stores in Wexford, Cranberry and South Hills filled with the healthiest pet food and treats along with a huge selection of fun toys. Please stop by if you are in their area, say hello and spoil your pet!

“Ginger (previously Mia) is doing GREAT and she loves being with our family! She has lots of new best friends in our neighborhood…She loves running in our big backyard! She loves to swat ice cubes around on the kitchen floor, and she's getting a little better with riding in the car…She LOVES to snuggle….We love her so much, and are spoiling her rotten!! Thank you so much for letting her become part of our family."

We have heard from a lot of you who have been finding some creative ways
to spend time with your pets this year. People have been enjoying more of the great outdoors lately and it is a great way to bond with your pet. Some of the pictures we have received are simply stunning and we wanted to share

Remembering Jane Mehaffey
 An amazing friend and animal advocate 
With heavy hearts, we had to say goodbye to our dear friend,
Jane Mehaffey, who passed away on July 15th, 2020. 
Jane served on the board of Animal Care & Welfare Inc.
as our Office Coordinator for many years. 
She was an enormous asset to our organization continually working tirelessly on grants and fundraising for the benefit of homeless pets. She always made herself available to transport our adoption pets for spay and neuter appointments and was always there when we needed her.  
Jane was our main Petco volunteer and photographer spending countless hours each year in the store managing events, helping support our mission and educating the public on animal care and welfare. She spent endless hours in financial meetings, managing our Facebook page and website, responding to countless emails along with managing our newsletter mailings.  

Jane's generosity was not limited to ACW. She also spent countless hours dedicating her time to helping Hancock County Animal Shelter. She was always available to stop in and take photos of new dogs and cats to post on Petfinder and help with their adoption efforts. So many of us counted on her willingness
to help wherever and whenever she was needed. Jane had many notable accomplishments throughout her life, but she will always be known for her selfless efforts to help all animals.
It is difficult to find the words that best describe Jane and
how she lived her life, but we think this says it all:
“Jane was such an animal lover that her family is convinced she crossed the Rainbow Bridge herself and was met by the hundreds of dogs and cats she had rescued over the years.
They are sure her reunion was a joyous one.” 
We couldn’t agree more.
Her loving smile and sense of humor lit up so many lives throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all of us and has left a huge void in all our hearts. As this year marks our 50th anniversary, it hasn’t been the same without Jane by our side. However, we know that she will be with us in spirit shining light on our continued efforts and future ventures.


Jane's mission and passion will live forever in our hearts.
