"The Seagull" Onstage
Final show tonight, December 15th!! Foothill Drama is pleased to announce a stage production of  The Seagull . The play is a dramatic piece that takes place in a Russian countryside estate over the course of two years. It follows a family and their friends as they navigate love triangles and the struggles of career success and failure.
 
Tonight's performance will take place in the Foothill MPR. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted at the door. 
Please note our Final Exams Bell schedule will be as follows:

Parents/guardians, staff, and community members may preview instructional materials that are being reviewed and considered for District adoption starting during the 2020-21 school year. The public preview for all pilot materials is viewable at the District Office at 4665 Bernal Avenue thru December 19, 2019. Four of the five publishers have provided digital access so you can review materials. Click here for preview instructions and details.
2nd Semester Schedule Change Requests
Students may submit requests now for second semester changes. For more information, please see below:
  • Schedule changes occur through the first week of semester 2 only. Forms can be found in the Counseling office and require parent signature.
  • Changes can only occur for level changes (for example: AP to regular, math level changes, etc.) or to add a non-academic, non-college prep class, such as Academic Support, TA or Special Ed Tutor. We are not adding to college-prep classes at this time.

  • Rising 10th-grade scheduling presentation on Jan. 29, 2020 in all Health/Global Studies classes.
  • Rising 11th-grade scheduling presentation on Jan. 30, 2020 in all World History classes.
  • Rising 12th-grade scheduling presentations on Jan. 31, 2020, in all U.S. History classes.
  • If your student is not enrolled in a history course at FHS, please have them contact their counselor directly to ensure they receive the appropriate information.
Outdoor Ed Counselors Needed
Cabin counselors are needed at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School for Donlon Elementary - February 18th to the 21st (T-F). Students please drop off applications with Mrs. Colón in the office by December 20, or at the training workshop on January at Donlon in Room C-14 from 3:30-5:00 pm.

Students must be in grades 10-12, in good standing, with no discipline issues, and a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Click here for details.
Yearbook News
GOOD NEWS! It's not too late to order a yearbook! To ensure your child receives a YEARBOOK WITH FREE NAMEPLATE in May, you must order a book online at   www.yearbookordercenter.com  (school code: 7378) by December 31, 20219. If you aren't sure whether you have ordered a book, search your email for a receipt from Herff Jones (and be sure it's for the 2020 book), or you can contact the yearbook adviser, Ms. Richey, at   [email protected] . 

Reminder!  If you would like your child's senior portrait to be included in the yearbook , you must have their portrait taken by Studio One   before the end of winter break . To schedule an appointment, contact them at   studio1experience.com  ASAP.

Screenagers: Next Chapter
Join us for a film and post-film panel to examine the science behind teens' emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly what we can do to help our kids build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression. School Facilities Update on January 21
Hear first-hand from PUSD Superintendent David Haglund and other PUSD leaders about Measure I1 and information about the PUSD Facilities Bond that will be placed for voter consideration on the March 3rd ballot. Next meeting is coming up on January 21, 2020 at 6:30pm in the Amador Valley High School Multipurpose Room- it is open to all (not restricted to Amador families). School Site Council Meeting Invitation
On Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 3:30-4:30 in room C-6 we will be holding our next School Site Council meeting. At this meeting we will be reviewing, updating, and approving the Comprehensive School Safety Plan. We would like to invite the Foothill community to attend this meeting.

Parenting Forum with Julie Lythcott-Haims
Julie Lythcott-Haims roots for humans. Humans need agency in order to make their way forward; Julie is deeply interested in what impedes us. She is the New York Times bestselling author of How to Raise an Adult, an anti-helicopter parenting manifesto which gave rise to one of the top TED Talks of 2016, and now has over 4 million views. Her second book is the critically-acclaimed and award-winning prose poetry memoir Real American, which illustrates her experience with racism and her journey toward self-acceptance. A third book called How to BE an Adult, for young adults, is forthcoming. She is a former corporate lawyer and Stanford dean, and she holds a BA from Stanford, a JD from Harvard, and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her partner of over thirty years, her mother, and her itinerant young adults.

Counseling Updates for Seniors   
**A few reminders**
SENIORS, please remember that if you are applying to a private or out-of-state college, you must return your manila envelope to your counselor   at least two weeks before your first application deadline, not including holidays.  If you are applying early, please make sure to get your manila envelope to your counselor on time!
           
On the front of the manila envelope, list private or out-of-state colleges you are applying to and circle the UC’s and/or CSU’s you are applying to.

Remember to include:
  • Your name and an email that you check regularly
  • Due dates for each application
  • Indicate if applying through Common App or not
 
In the manila envelope include:
  • The completed student information sheet, also known as the brag sheet
 
For private or out of state colleges   not     on the Common App,   also include in the manila envelope  :
  • The completed secondary school report in your best handwriting, blue or black ink (colleges will see this, so please be neat!)
  • Envelopes addressed to the college in your best handwriting, blue or black ink, with two stamps and leave the return address blank
  • Order official transcripts by completing the Senior Transcript Request Form

Powerpoint presentation, PDFs of the senior packet, and additional information can be found on the  Counseling's Senior page .

As always, all students may complete an appointment slip request form to meet with their counselor individually.

Some are valued at $500 to $5000 and more.

Scholarships display in Naviance as they become available so keep checking back as new scholarships are added, open, and close throughout the year.

Scholarships and grants can be awarded by multiple sources: colleges and universities, businesses, companies, non-profits, and local individuals. Click here for more info on scholarships and financial aid. Applications, recommendations and essays are just some of the requirements that may take time, but it can be well worth it!

Winter break is a great time for all students to explore colleges/majors and to plan for other post high school opportunities.  Naviance  is a great tool for this! Need help logging in? Contact your  alpha counselor  for assistance.

AVSI Scholarships for SENIORS
For graduating seniors from Foothill , Village and Amador High Schools. Amador Valley Scholarships, Inc. is a community-based organization providing scholarships to students who will be attending a vocational,community college or 4-year college.
Students fill out one (1) application and will be considered for eleven (11) scholarships. The online application is now live, www.amadorvalleyscholarshipsinc.org. Applications be must received by 11pm on March 20, 2020 .
The Rotary Club of Pleasanton Scholarships
For graduating seniors. The Warren Annis Service Above Self Scholarship, Roger Dabney Memorial Scholarship, and the Harry Plett Memorial Scholarship are each awarded in honor of former distinguished Rotarians. Financial need is the main criteria for selection for all scholarships, other considerations are school and community activities, work experience, academic record, career & educational aspirations & goals as well as personal recommendations. Must plan to attend full-time at a community or 4-yr college, vocational, or trade school. Applications due March 31, 2020 .   Click here  for instructions.

Sports Packets for Athletes
To try out for a sport at Foothill High School, you must first register on AthleticClearance.com . Complete instructions and forms can be found on the Foothill website (foothillfalcons.org) by clicking on Athletics and Activities, then  Sports Packet . After registering on AthleticClearance.com you will need to turn in a signed copy of the Confirmation Message, Emergency form, and current physical (if you were unable to upload it). You will be able to tell online when your athlete has been cleared. We will also be sending you messages through this program, such as if your physical has expired or is close to expiring.

Please turn in your packets for the season you will be playing in after the Parent Sports Meeting:

  • Winter sports meeting was held on October 16, 2019
  • Spring sports meeting will be ~ January 2020
  • (20-21) Fall Sports meeting will ~ April 2020
