City Offices Closed in Observance of Columbus Day - All City Offices will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2020 in observance of Columbus Day. This includes the 18th District Court. Trash pick up will not be affected by the holiday.

Free Food Distribution 30 lbs of Nutritious Groceries - On, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center located at 31250 Dorsey Road. Together with Gleaners Community Food Bank we are taking all necessary precautions to distribute food safely. Families and individuals in need of food are encouraged to attend the distribution. No appointment needed.
Neighborhood Services is starting the Second Street Sweeping for 2020 -residents are reminded to watch for sweeping signs and move cars off the street in order for the city to sweep the curb lane and leave room for the sweeper to move. Signs will be placed ahead of sweepers and picked up upon completion of each section. Below is the projected Street Sweeping schedule (weather permitting).
  • October 12th it will be Wednesday's Garbage Route Section 
  • October 15th it will be Monday's Garbage Route Section  
  • October 19th it will be Thursday's Garbage Route Section.

The City of Westland will be holding a Halloween Decorating Contest - This contest kicked off on October 1, 2020 and will run through November 1, 2020. Residents or Businesses can visit the City of Westland's website to nominate themselves, a friend or a business in one or all of the three categories: Best Autumn Display, Best Spooky Display and Most Over the Top Display. Nominees will be asked to enter a picture along with the submission. Winners will be announced and awarded prizes at the council meeting on Monday, November 16, 2020.

The City's Malloween event in partnership with Westland Shopping Center and Parkside Credit Union has been canceled this year. It was a collaborative decision with all involved parties in accordance with the State Health Official's guidance for trick or treating this year.

William P. Faust Public Library located at 6123 Central City Parkway has many fun activities for all ages. The Adult Take it Home Craft: Paper Strip Fall Art it starts on Monday, October 12, 2020. Stop by the library and pick up your craft then share the finished craft with others on social media. Online Kid's Book Tales - Every Wednesday tune into the kid's Facebook page, Westland Library Kids, to hear about an awesome chapter book!
