A significant spike in Covid-19 cases, and more importantly, hospitalizations for Covid-19 in our region has led to more mitigations which further limit group sizes to no more than 10. Churches are exempted from many of the requirements, but your Council and Staff continue to have thoughtful conversations about what we are called to do in order to be faithful to our call and to our role in the community as ambassadors for Christ.
We will not be holding in-person confirmation or worship from now through the end of the year and will revisit this decision at our January Council meeting. Watch next week's e-newsletter for opportunities to connect on Zoom, Facebook live and YouTube during Advent. And don't forget, you can always reach out to

Pastor Trudy's Sunday Message
|
|
People— you, me— us—people—we seem to be particularly adept at getting really riled up about certain things that don't matter much and not worrying much about the thing that is actually far more serious. That's what the prophets try to get us to see, the serious things that will ultimately lead us to our own discipline from God. And when the discipline comes because we've failed to heed the abundant warnings, we will be so baffled and wonder, 'How could God do this?' I get it, nobody wants to deal with dire predictions of doom. But if we close our ears to them, we will also miss the hope on the other side.
God, it is hard for us to hear that all of our choices may not be right, that we are missing really important things to chase all kinds of idols. Help us to trust the promise on the other side of the hard truths we must face about ourselves, to trust that you will lead us there as we follow the One who faced this truth all the way to the cross. In Jesus' name, Amen.

SUNDAY SCHOOL on YouTube!
|
Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and caregivers! Miss Christy is pre-recording Sunday School lessons for the kids in your life to watch on YouTube! Kids can sing along with the music, listen to a Bible story, and do a craft. The Sunday lesson will be made available on the weekends, but watch whenever and wherever works for you and your child! Take a look at last week's Sunday School craft at the bottom of the enews! Very cool!

WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
|
|
|
How does God know if you're struggling?
Psalm 139 begins, 'O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.' This gives assurance that God is with us, but God does more...God sent Jesus to accompany us through even the most difficult struggles we face. We practice this every year during Holy Week as we see Jesus suffer and struggle. AND we see God raising him, declaring victory over death...victory over sin...victory through the struggles. But this victory doesn't have anything to do with winning, but with growing closer to God.

Salvation Army Angel Tree Challenge
|
Geneva Lutheran Church will continue our Christmas tradition of partnering with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas gifts for children in our Fox Valley community. Once again, we will focus on collecting gifts for youth ages 12-17. The most popular items are Legos, make-up, cologne sets, adult winter coats, hats/gloves, socks, science kits, art kits, journals, mini backpacks and gift cards.
NEW FOR 2020! The Salvation Army has partnered with Walmart to do a virtual shopping alternative! You can purchase items from an online registry and have them shipped directly to the St. Charles Salvation Army. Here's how:
*Click on Registry for Good
*Scroll down to see the verified partners in the area
*Click on The Salvation Army St. Charles (Tri-City) Community Center Angel Tree
We will also be collecting items at church, if you prefer to shop in person. Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off during drive-through communion on Sunday, November 29, or during church office hours (M-F, 9 am-3 pm) before Sunday, December 6.
