'Tis the Season to Thank Our Teachers & Staff: Deadline to Contribute to School-Wide Gift Fund is THIS FRIDAY, December 11
|
If you have not yet contributed to the school-wide teacher and staff holiday gift fund, please consider a donation by this Friday, December 11 (donation link, here). Your contribution can help us reach our goal!
With families at the center of our children's distance learning, appreciation for what teachers and staff do on a daily basis is at an all-time high. In this season of thanks and giving, we want to make sure our HPS teachers and staff really feel our love through school wide holiday gifts. It is more well-deserved than ever before! They've been upbeat, resilient, and generous; organized, cheerful, and calm, giving our children a positive learning experience no matter what obstacles have been thrown their way.
So this year, we are trying a new, streamlined approach to teacher and staff holiday gifts. In the past, teacher gifts have been handled by each individual homeroom's room parent. But this year, because distance learning will continue through the time when gifts would be distributed and because the circumstances have humbled us all to the devotion of our teachers and staff, we're collecting cash donations from the whole school. These donations then will be split among ALL teachers and staff to ensure that EVERYONE knows how much we appreciate them, and no one is overlooked.
Thank you!!

HPS Gives to Families in Need: Holiday Hope Tree Donations are Due by December 16
|
The holidays can be a challenging time for many families in an ordinary year, but this year, the holidays are bringing an even greater struggle to families in need. This year, HPS is keeping its tradition of hosting a Holiday Hope Tree, but rather than a tree in the Main Office, the Tree is virtual through Amazon Smile. Please have a look at the different wishes and needs from families in our community found on this Amazon gift registry link, and help us spread a little hope. All gifts must be donated by December 16. Please further help us by having your gifts sent already wrapped when possible. However, if the gift wrapping is not possible, we will take care of it for you. **PLEASE NOTE the letter/number code in the gift message box and choose HPS c/o Emmy Ellis's Gift Registry Address for the mailing address. Thank you for your generosity!

City Survey to Improve Traffic Safety at HPS
|
The Department of Transportation and Engineering (DOTE) has received several complaints about eastbound vehicles on Observatory Ave not yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk when turning left (north) onto Edwards Rd. DOTE is considering modifying the traffic signal to include a “left turn on green arrow only” for eastbound vehicles turning left (north) on Edwards.
Adding a “left turn on green arrow only” will eliminate the conflict between pedestrians crossing Edwards in the north crosswalk and vehicles turning left on Edwards. When pedestrians have a “walk” signal for the north crosswalk, eastbound vehicles on Observatory will not be allowed to turn left on Edwards.
Adding this “left turn on green arrow only” will increase wait times for all users at the intersection. Vehicles traveling through the intersection will have a longer red light, vehicles turning north onto Edwards will have a longer wait, and pedestrians will have a longer wait for the “walk” signal. This change will also require the loss of a few parking spots on all legs of the intersection.
Please use the feedback form to let the City know if you prefer the existing traffic signal timing, or the addition of the “left turn on green arrow only.”
