We Are Now Re-open (by Appointment)

As of Monday, June 1, the Centre will be available again to women, by appointment only (in order to comply with public health regulations and safely open) . In person services will include: taxes, personal care items and computer access. Please call 403-264-1155 for details and to book your appointment. 

In order to offer some in-person services, we rearranged our space and placed dividers to ensure physical distancing measures We have also implemented a phone and door screening processes
 
Staff and volunteers continue to offer some supports by phone. We can currently assist women over the phone with food bank referrals and peer support, as well as legal advice and taxes. For a full list of available services please visit our  website here

Fiyah with Mariya

Our Artist in Residence Mariya Stokes is offering free, weekly, live concerts on her Facebook page.

Every Monday at noon she will host Fiyah with Mariya. And Fridays at noon she hosts a kid-friendly version. You can enjoy 'family friendly tunes, stories, and glittery fun from the comfort of your home'.

Young Buffalo Program

The Young Buffalo Program is for Indigenous youth ages 12 and up who are interested in learning more about themselves, their culture and building life skills. 

Sessions take place every Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. through Zoom.

Environmental Issues: A Discussion of Waste Exploration
Do you ever question what is recyclable and what is not? If you are confused about "what goes where", you are not alone. To help solve the confusion, Green Calgary is offering a new and unique learning opportunity to the Women's Centre of Calgary.   
The program will include a series of interactive webinars with eye-opening learning tasks.

On Monday, June 8, 5:00 - 6:30 P.M. join us, remotely, for A Discussion on Community Waste Exploration You will learn exactly what should go into your residential recycling, compost and garbage carts. And, if you wonder why there are so many rules around it all, you will learn why and the fascinating science behind it. This program will empower you to properly manage your household waste and live more sustainably. You will receive a Waste Journal Guide supplied with tools and tips to help you create a personalized action plan and track behaviour change towards a more zero waste lifestyle.

Lifecasting Sculptures with Toilet Paper
Our online Artist in Residence workshop series continues! On  Thursday, June 4, 4:00 - 5:30 P.M. you are invited to participate in a  Lifecasting Workshop

Join us via Zoom for a virtual workshop with Artist in Residence, Claudia Chagoya. Come explore your creativity through life casting, a process of making small sculptures using common objects. Supplies that you would need include: Toilet paper (less than a roll), water, a small brush, 3-5 objects to cast and optional glue. Claudia will also show you how to paint or make a collage with your sculpture.

Girls Summer Programs
The Women's Centre is offering summer camps for girls from grades 5 - 6 (Girl Power) and grades 7-9 (Girl Force).  Girls will have the options to mix and match online and in-person camps - they are able to attend one of each or just one if they'd like.

Online programs will run for two hours a day for one week from  July 6 - 10 and August 4-7 ( Girl Power sessions from 10:00 A.M. - Noon and  Girl Force from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M.) 

In-person programs will be half day sessions from 9:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. in the Women's Centre workshop space. Bagged lunches will be provided and physical distance measures in place. The maximum for each camp will be eight girls and two adults. Sessions for Girl Power will run July 13-17 and August 10-14 and for Girl Force July 20 -24 and August 17 - 21

Women Lead YYC is Moving Online
Women Lead YYC is a program designed to support women who want to lead, influence or participate in collective action in order to improve their community. We will be hosting a Women Lead YYC cohort virtually in the fall.

Join us via Zoom for this exciting and fun dance fitness workshop with Robin O'Grady. This is a dance fitness program with Bollywood style and flair. This is a creative, traditionally choreography featuring Bollywood, Bolly Hip Hop and Bhangra/Folk styles dace fitness class.
