Torn: Shredding the Fabric of Our Lies

Lent 2022

The season of Lent began on March 2 with Ash Wednesday and the imposition of ashes as a reminder of our mortality and Christ’s gift of life everlasting. This year we are exploring “lies we tell ourselves,” and how the in-breaking of God into our lives exposes those lies, and reveals the truth of God’s love and care for us. Join us Wednesday evenings at 6:15 pm for Torn: Shredding the Fabric of Our Lies.

Social Concerns Announcements:

EQUAL EXCHANGE FAIR TRADED PRODUCTS—coffee, tea, nuts, and chocolate bars—will again be available for purchase this coming weekend, April 2, during the women’s Metro-East Spring Gathering at FLC and the Saturday evening worship service, and at the time of the two Sunday morning worship services on April 3. These products will continue to be available for purchase every first weekend of the month.  What a wonderful way this is to support third world farmers, so they can sell directly to consumers, providing them with a fair income that will help them care for their families and improve their communities!

During the Season of LENT we at FLC will have a wonderful opportunity to do “alms giving,” one of the three ways which Bishop Brian Maas reminded us on February 23 is a good way to prepare ourselves for the joyous EASTER celebration!  “Alms giving” means giving to others who are in need. We are going to have a “Bathroom Shower Ingathering” for REFUGEES who are being resettled in Nebraska, sponsored by Lutheran Family Services. Let’s see how many of the 100 families involved we can help by providing necessities for their bathrooms! There will be a table and bin in the narthex for your collection of the following items between March 2 through March 3l: bath towels, shampoo, soap, individual toothbrushes, tooth paste, and deodorant. Happy shopping for this REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT BATHROOM SHOWER!

For those who may wish to make additional donations of furniture for furnishing apartments, such as chairs or other household items in good condition, go to: https://www.lfsneb.org/get-involved/ On this page you can go to the section labeled “Furniture/Household items” where there is information regarding donations. At the bottom of the section there is a hyperlink to sign up to drop off donations in Omaha or in Lincoln. In Omaha, sign up to drop off donations HERE! Disregard the Lincoln information.

Please note there is both a plastic and a wooden Receptacle for gifts to the WASHINGTON COUNTY FOOD PANTRY are available to receive your food donations at FLC at any time!
