The De La Salle School Hats
Greetings from Mr. Gault

On Thursday, 12 December The De La Salle School welcomed Mr. Michael Rakeman and Mr. Brian Schiele from Fellowship Home Loans in Rockville Centre along with several members of their staff. They brought lunch for all of the students, faculty and staff and a wonderful time was had over a delicious meal.   As a special surprise they arranged a guest appearance from Santa Claus and his elves. Santa met with each student and graciously gave each one an early Christmas gift. Mr. Rakeman and Mr. Schiele also presented the school with a very generous check on behalf of their company along with specially made De La Salle School hats for all. Many thanks with our prayers and best wishes to all the staff at Fellowship Home Loans for arranging an early visit from Santa and for sharing the day with our De La Salle family.

Our annual Hot Cocoa and Book Night was another wonderful evening shared with our De La Salle School family. The gymnasium was set up as a café for friends and family to socialize and share a hot cup of cocoa. Across the stage were a variety of toys and games donated by the students of St. Peter's Boys High School on Staten Island. These prizes were raffled off and raised over $300. toward our Advent collection for Mwangaza College, our Lasallian school in Kenya. Each classroom was set up for a special activity - Christmas stories in one room, arts and crafts in another, Santa's workshop in a third and short Christmas movies in another. At the conclusion of the evening we all gathered back in the gym for the drawing of our raffles. The Faculty and staff ended the festivities by taking turns reading the classic Christmas poem, `Twas the Night Before Christmas for everyone to enjoy. It was a wonderful evening!

On Tuesday, 5 December we celebrated "The Spirit of Giving" with author Deborah Burns at our annual Christmas Luncheon.  The Garden City Country Club was beautifully decorated for the season with a light coating of snow on the grounds as we welcomed over 230 guests to our luncheon.  Ms. Burns, the author of "Saturday's Child" spoke about her upbringing as the only child of her beautiful, unconventional, rule-breaking mother in the prim 1950's.  She shared her challenges as she spoke about the wonderful young men she came to meet that day from The De La Salle School and the support of our sponsors to help them overcome their challenges.  It was truly a day of celebration! Congratulations to the cash prize winners: $1,000 - Joan Boccio; $500 - Mr. J. Zurrell; $250 - Maureen Fraser.

Wishing all many blessings throughout the New Year.

Prayers and best wishes always.
