The Portuguese Diaspora Council is a non-profit private association, founded on December 26, 2012, with the high patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic. In 2019, it was recognized by the Portuguese State as a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGOS).

The main purpose of the association is to strengthen relations between Portugal and its diaspora, the Portuguese and their descendants, for the purpose of promoting the country's values, culture, image, and reputation towards the development and prosperity of Portugal.

The first goal of the Portuguese Diaspora Council was the formation of the "World Portuguese Network" that involves an extended group of Portuguese of proven influence who focus most of their activity abroad and have distinguished themselves in their fields of expertise, namely culture, citizenship, science and economics.

In 2017, the Conselho was given the Status of Public Interest, highlighting goals and themes widely recognized as relevant contributions to the country while approaching a wide range of subjects in the areas of economic and social interest.

Strong membership participation means a stronger voice in the national Portuguese-American agenda. In order to advance Portuguese language education, increase presence in the congressional caucuses, and provide economic opportunities, the collective voice of thousands is needed!

In addition, PALCUS is a member-driven non-profit organization that depends on membership dues and fundraising events to fund its operations.  Members of the all-volunteer board of directors donate their time and personal funds for travel, lodging and tickets to attend networking events and planning sessions so our administrative costs are relatively low but nonetheless critical to doing business on a daily basis.

There are membership categories to suit every budget and level of interest.  Please click on our membership webpage and join our voice today!
