After many years of waiting, Wake County has received updated floodplain maps from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Updates occurred to 232 of the 276 flood panels in Wake County.
How does this affect me?
Wake County does not permit development in flood hazard areas. If your lot is currently in or near a FEMA floodplain, you can access the preliminary maps or call your local government floodplain manager for technical assistance. Some properties are no longer in the floodplain, but some properties have been added. Cumulatively there are about 60 fewer structures located in the floodplain based on the preliminary mapping.
