We heard you loud and clear -
Rebuild the Peace Park!
|
The Charlestown Peace Park project has had its share of controversy, especially of late. After a roller-coaster of events leading to the Coalition's decision to post a GoFundMe page, we could not be more excited to announce what's next.
We are extremely grateful and deeply moved by the community's response to the vandalism at our beloved space. We have so many people to thank for donating their time, labor, and money. Because of
your resilience and dedication to the underlying message of the park, we are able to rebuild the space, bigger and better than before.
The Coalition has received a considerable amount of funding to rebuild the park, and we will share with you where every cent donated is to be spent. We have contacted a pro-bono professional landscaping design team recommended by the Charlestown Preservation Society,
COGDesign
, to help us create a strategic plan for the park revision. If you would like to get involved in Peace Park rebuild, please contact Ginaya Greene Murray.

Young Leaders Visualize Health Equity
Permanent Art Gallery

Congratulations to one of our Turn It Around members, Rahsaun Brown, for his submission to the National Academy of Medicine's Young Leaders Visualize Health Equity nationwide art project. Rahsaun's poem will be housed in their permanent online gallery along with more than 175 other submissions! These pieces tell the story of how young leaders envision a world in which everyone has the opportunity to be safe, happy, and healthy.

If you missed our HeART in the Park exhibit, artwork from the, "I Am Resilient," Turn It Around workshop as well as art from the 2016 StoveFactoy "Collaborative Workshop" is still available for purchase.
We have 12 x 12 framed images, as well as note cards and original canvas pieces.

Prevention Month Extended!
|
We are extending our Prevention Month activity for another month! If you have not yet scanned our Turn It Around barcode, here's your chance to learn more about the "Advice to My Middle School Self," activity. And keep an eye out around town since many organizations, schools, and businesses have posted these to bring more awareness to Prevention Month!

Boston Police Department
District D4 Vigil
|
On Saturday, October 26th, our Program Manager of Addiction and Recovery Services, Shannon Lundin, was invited to speak at the Boston Police Department's District D4 Station where a vigil was held in memory of 3 young men who died of overdose while in police custody. Shayne Stilphen, Cristhian Geigel and the 3rd man (whose family wishes he not be named) were the individuals remembered. The vigil was held to address changes in policies and procedures that must be put in place when dealing with individuals who are impaired and need prompt medical attention while in custody.

Charlestown Lacrosse & Learning Center
|
The Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center is currently offering after-school homework help, tutoring, and mentoring Monday through Friday from 2pm-6pm, and it's free! All students from 5th-8th grade are welcome on a drop-in basis, any day. They also offer educational workshops including engineering for kids, healthy cooking club, young entrepreneurs, and cheese club.
For those interested in playing youth lacrosse, spring season for boys and girls will begin mid-March to mid-June for grades K-8th.

Ryan Williams is October's Turn It Around Youth of The Month. Ryan is new to the group, and in his first month of being an official member of Turn It Around, he has made a HUGE impact.
|

Ryan not only volunteered at the MGH Crossroads Resource Center's grand opening, but he's also been a big help around the office. And he was an integral part of Turn It Around's "Heart in The Park" art show being such a big success. We're so happy to have Ryan as part of the TIA family!
