NEW DIRECTOR SPOTLIGHT
It is with great excitement that the Board of Directors welcomes Casey Jenkins to Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. as our new Director.
Casey graduated Virginia Tech in 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication and a double minor in English and Philosophy. For several years after graduating, he worked in leadership roles in museums and cultural institutions before returning to the area to work for the Town of Christiansburg. In Christiansburg, he oversaw the planning and management of all special events and worked to revitalize Downtown and Cambria by facilitating an entrepreneurial-minded culture and promoting creative placemaking. Currently, he is pursuing an online graduate certificate in Public Administration from the University of Virginia.
"Blacksburg has held a special place in my heart since I graduated and I relish the opportunity to give back to this community," Casey says. "My wife and I are thrilled to live, work and play in Blacksburg and I intend to take that passion and energy to the street as I work on behalf of Downtown Blacksburg Inc. I am most excited about meeting and working with all the members and merchants associated with downtown. Downtown has so much to offer and continues to be the beating heart of Blacksburg and the New River Valley. Downtown has something for everyone and I'm so excited to work with the variety of stakeholders and merchants that make this place a home!"
As he takes his passion to this position, Casey would like to increase
the organization's financial stability by increasing fundraising and growing the operating budget; increase membership among downtown businesses; develop new programming; examine the organization's role of community development and engagement; facilitate
professional development opportunities, including workshops, webinars and training sessions for merchants.
In his free time, Casey and his wife
hike with their dog every chance they get and in doing so, have explored much of the New River Valley. He and his wife also enjoy cooking together and have started a new tradition of cooking around the world once a week, selecting different countries' dishes. Casey is
an avid sports fan and particularly enjoys watching college football and playing soccer. He has also grown up playing music his whole life and always enjoys a good concert!
Casey will start his new position on
February 17 and we will d
edicate time at the end of our membership meeting on February 26 for you to meet Casey. We encourage everyone to attend and welcome him to our organization!
