Important Information Regarding A Positive COVID Case
Dear Serra Parents, Guardians and Students,

As many of you are aware, we received notification this morning of a person who was on campus earlier this week and tested positive for COVID-19. In an effort to prioritize health and safety, we took the following actions:
  • The administration immediately met to evaluate all persons affected.  To limit further exposure, classes were paused and all students were moved to the football field.  All students maintained physical distancing protocols and retained face coverings while on the field.
  • We asked students to contact their parents to arrange pick-up from school and followed with an email to their parents.
  • We followed our contact tracing protocols.  Individuals who were considered close contacts were identified and notified.
  • Additionally, all students were sent notice that the remaining classes would move  to asynchronous learning for the remainder of the day.  Faculty posted all assignments to Google classroom.
We understand that this situation can be both unnerving and unsettling. Please know that we will continue to follow the health guidelines and protocols set forth in our approved  reopening plan. The guidelines of physical distancing, face coverings and cleaning help us reduce risk of transmission in the situation of a positive case. Contact tracing protocols support the ability to identify and notify those who may be impacted.

We applaud our students, faculty and staff for their efforts this morning. All students were isolated on the field in an orderly fashion, followed all guidelines associated with physical distancing and acted with patience, calm and maturity. We were also able to identify families and students on campus via the daily Ruvna health screening. At this point, all students and adults who have been identified as a close contact of this case have been notified.

With the need for some faculty and supervisory staff to quarantine as a result of this positive case, we will need to adjust our schedule for the next two weeks. All students will be in distance learning from February 8 - 19.  Serra will return to a full hybrid schedule with all grades on Monday, February 22 in the blue cohort. All outside activities, such as athletic conditioning and retreats, will continue next week as scheduled.

Thank you again for your patience and support as we work through this as a community. If you have any questions regarding the health and safety of your son, please contact Mr. McGrath or Mrs. Ortiz at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Charlie McGrath
