Weekend Lineup
More of the Wurst, Wied History, West Battle, Last Cajun Dance
More fun at Wurstfest this weekend. Check out the photos from the first weekend below and plan a trip to New Braunfels. See the schedule.

Wied Hall Marker Dedication
On Sat., Nov. 9 a Texas historical marker will be placed at Wied Hall as a testament to those honorable men and women who made a livelihood and kept "community" important in this section of Lavaca County (midway between Schulenburg and Hallettsville). It can be validly stated that there has always been something happening in a hall at Wied since the 1890s. The hall that stands today was built in 1912 and its sheer existence to this day is clearly due to the hardworking families who put countless dedicated hours of their time and resources into its upkeep and operation.  The marker dedication on Nov. 9 will be celebrated with music starting at noon featuring Zach Novak, Shiner Hobo Band, Jade Marie Patek, and Los Kolaches. The dedication ceremony will take place at 3 pm. Barbecue sandwiches, sausage wraps, desserts, soda, and water will be for sale, and you're invited to bring your favorite adult beverages. Historical displays and a silent auction will also be set up in the hall.

Salute to Vets in West
If you're looking for a great way to celebrate Veterans' Day, then head to West. The West Columbus Hall is hosting a battle dance on Sun., Nov. 10 between Roger Kirby & Texas Heartbeat and Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1-6 pm. This is the fourth year to feature this battle between one of Waco's best country bands and one of Ennis' best polka bands.  Doors open at 11 am and a special salute to veterans will be held at 12:30 pm. Dudley Allen will sing his YouTube hit Kneel or Stand along with other patriotic songs. A fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings will be served for $10, except for veterans. Those who served our country, along with their spouses, eat for free!

End of an Era
The Cajun French Music Association, De Fa Tras chapter in San Antonio, will hold its last dance at the Hermann Sons Dance Hall this Saturday from 8-11 pm with music by Ca Va Bien. Unfortunately with dwindling membership the chapter will no longer be able to hold monthly dances. Thanks for all the great Cajun sounds over the years!

Houston Saengerbund's Christmas Pops will be performed on Saturday, December 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the Nave of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1311 Holman, Houston, 77004.

The Christmas Pops is a first for the choirs of the Houston Saengerbund. It is a program geared especially for children and for persons who may not be able to drive at night. It is a free concert offered in the spirit of the season to bring joy to the lives of all who attend.

All who love traditional holiday classics will enjoy "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "Gesu Bambino", "O Holy Night", and other standards. The young at heart will be entertained by "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas", and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch".
There will also be a visit by the Sugar Plum Fairy. Photographs with our guest artists will be possible after the performance.

On December 10 at 7:30 pm in the Nave of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1311 Holman, Houston, 77004 the Houston Saengerbund Maennerchor and Damenchor will be brought together by a distant Alphorn, played by Ross of Das Ist Lustig. The Saengerbund will present a glorious Weihnachtskonzert featuring Kresley Figueroa as the soprano soloist for the Laudate Dominum from Mozart's Solemn Vespers. The men will perform German favorites like "Tochter Zion" and "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen". The women will perform a beautiful medley of "snow tunes" - from the quiet "Leise rieselt der Schnee", to the "Schneewalzer" and last, to the bright 1926 "Sleigh a la Russe". The Christmas Nightingale has the most poignant words: the English translation tells the sweet Nightingale to fly to the manger and sing a joyful song to the child Jesus.

A reception will follow the concert and all are invited. The Weihnachtskonzert will be performed in German and English.
