Brown Bag Seminars will return in 2021
Do you have a topic to present?
The Chamber's Education Committee is entertaining the idea of getting our Brown Bag Seminars going again. Typically 1-hour long, these seminars are intended to attract intimate audiences of 5-30 people.
Members, do you have a subject you would like to pose for an upcoming seminar? Presenting a Brown Bag Seminar is a great way to shine a spotlight on your business and the services you offer. You create the lesson plan, we do the rest including creating the invitations and promoting your seminar.
We anticipate offering the Brown Bag Seminars in-person by Fall 2021 but we would also be interested in offering seminars prior to the Fall in a virtual format. If you are interested in sharing your expertise with your fellow Chamber Members, in-person or virtually, while promoting yourself and your business, we would love to hear from you!
Just drop Alix a line with the topic you would like to present and your preferred month to get the ball rolling!

Former Friendly’s Restaurant Has New Owners
STURBRIDGE, MA – The word is finally out: Jenna and Ted (“Teddy G”) Gidopoulos have finalized the purchase of the 4500 square foot former Friendly’s Restaurant at 367 Main Street, Sturbridge, where they plan to open a second restaurant.
The new restaurant, to operate under the name Gido’s Brick Oven Pizza (pronounced jē-dōz), will offer a different dining experience from Teddy G’s, the popular American style pub & grille that will remain open at its current Main Street address.
“Gido’s will feature a brick oven pizza station where customers will be able to watch their pie being made,” says Ted. “We’re planning to keep the ice cream window for soft-serve and hard ice cream and a variety of ice cream toppings, shakes and other frozen treats.” The menu will also feature chicken wings, pasta and fried and baked seafood entrees.
No opening date has been set. The couple plans major renovations to the interior of the property, with a new HVAC system, all new equipment and furniture. One half of the space will be dedicated to full-service dining and the remainder will include a separate bar and gathering place for community groups and adult sports leagues. The main dining room should be able to host groups of 25-30 people, including some of the many youth sports teams they hope to sponsor there.
“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for quite some time,” said Ted. “Both Jenna and I started out as kids working in the pizza business and we’re passionate about creating an enjoyable dining experience for our customers.” Ted got his start as a high-schooler working alongside his parents at Village Pizza before launching Teddy G’s in 2013. Jenna developed a love for the business while managing North Brookfield Pizza for many years.
“Operating Teddy G’s for the last year and a half caused us to think more creatively while putting together our plans for Gido’s,” she added. “It also made us think long and hard about potential staffing issues, since the pandemic has caused such a shortage, but we’re counting on things improving in the time it takes us to complete renovations.”

Ryleigh Modig to Host Benefit Concert for Pets in Need
Proceeds Will be Donated to Second Chance
EAST BROOKFIELD, MA (July 14, 2021) – Ryleigh Modig of the Voice will be hosting a special benefit concert for Second Chance Animal Services at the Quarter Keg Pub in Charlton on Sunday, July 25th from 1 to 4 pm. Proceeds from the concert will help pets in need at the Second Chance shelter where Modig began volunteering as a child.
Modig, a Spencer resident, brought her unique tone to this year’s 20th season of The Voice and quickly became a judge’s favorite, earning a triple steal before she was eliminated. When she returned to Massachusetts, she was determined to host a special concert to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.
“Ryleigh has always had a soft spot for animals. She was just 5 when she began accompanying her mother to volunteer at the shelter,” said Second Chance Development Director Lindsay Doray. “We were so excited when she approached us about hosting a concert for Second Chance so we can help even more pets.”
Second Chance helps over 40,000 pets a year, providing access to veterinary care and a pet food pantry in addition to adoption services. “So many pets need help, and Ryleigh’s generosity is helping to make our programs possible,” added Doray.
