Are You Right About Rattlers?

When people typically hear the word desert, they think of cactus, dry heat, and rattlesnakes. In Arizona, we like to say that rattlesnake season is January 1 - December 31. Depending on weather, you can find rattlers out and about 365 days a year. Sadly, these desert dwellers come with a stigma (that they are aggressive). Like all wildlife they must be respected, but these slithering species are not "out to get you." They would much rather find food, shelter, and a mate.  See Them Slither!

Flower Friday

Looking for a way to bring the Sonoran Desert into your home this holiday season? Consider decorating your own agave stalk! Looking for natural ornaments? Use fishing line to hang seedpods from devil's claw, screwbean mesquite, Mexican buckeye and yucca. Bonus: This plant takes up less floor space and doesn't leave a pine needle pile. Please remember to always get permission before harvesting the stalks.  Dig Deeper!

Volunteer Viernes

We would like to congratulate our volunteers of the month, Geoffrey Tyler and Lynda Adams. Geoffrey is a seasonal docent that leaves his home in England to volunteer with the Desert Museum. He leads fabulous tours! Lynda is not only a docent, but has volunteered with the Interpretative Animal Collection for 17 years. We really value her reliable nature. We could not do what we do without them. Thank you for being such a great addition to the family.  Volunteer Today!
