Foundation 65 Expands Educator Literacy Initiative
Congratulations are in order to Foundation 65’s inaugural cohort of educators participating in the Masters in Literacy and Reading Endorsement program! Twelve educators, who are working diligently towards their masters in reading/literacy endorsement, were selected to be a part of the foundation’s cohort for their commitment in supporting marginalized D65 students and are already using their new-found skills to support students in their classrooms!

With Foundation 65’s support, this cohort will have 100% of their tuition for their summer semester classes covered, in addition to the 50% tuition reimbursement promised for their current winter semester. The Executive Director of Foundation 65, Alecia Wartowski, shared her excitement with the program recipients, stating, “While there are a multitude of challenges in this moment, we also know that we need to look beyond this current crisis and build capacity in our educators and our school system. We are hopeful that this will provide both the immediate relief and the long-term support to help our teachers be more successful in their classrooms.”

Winter Wonderland at Canal Shores Golf Course
Looking to beat the winter blues and connect with nature? How about doing this at a golf course?! Yes, you read that correctly! Canal Shores Golf Course, Downtown Evanston, and Evanston Made are inviting the public to create an immersive art experience across 18 golf holes through the Canal Shores Golf Course Nature Art Exhibit! From February 1-28, community members are welcome to explore the golf course and create natural art. To participate, community members should create art with natural objects found on the course and install their artwork anywhere at Canal Shores. Once you’re finished, feel free to take a photo of your art and upload it, along with the golf hole location you installed your art, on EvanstonMade.org. Make sure to share your photos of nature art on social media using the hashtags #evanstonmade and #evanstonartconnects.

Have you wanted to gain more information on our magnet schools and selective enrollment programs? Well, you’re in for a treat! The D65 Registration team will be hosting two exciting virtual events for families to learn more about student life in D65. On February 17 from 8-9 PM, incoming and prospective kindergarten families are welcome to attend the Day in the Life of a Kindergartener virtual information session to learn more about kindergarten registration and the daily routines that our kindergarten students follow.

On February 18 from 7:30-9 PM, families are also invited to attend a virtual information session on our magnet schools, Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School and Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies, and learn more about our selective enrollment programs, including our African Centered Curriculum (ACC) program and our Two-Way immersion (TWI) program.
