Tuckaway Village is a nice little community “tucked away” in Germantown Hills, Illinois. We had a total of 31 volunteers show up, who bravely toughed out the rain, which fell most of the day. We met Barry, the new DM for the community. He had a fantastic attitude and helped us in so many ways. We were blessed with nine young ladies from a local Methodist church group, who worked so hard painting a home and staining a deck. They made two different residents very happy! There were many residents with personal stories of struggle, but they also showed us the resilience people can have in tough situations and that a little caring can help lighten the load and give them hope.

Oak Lawn Estates in Morton, Illinois, is a HUGE but beautiful community! We were fortunate to have 45 volunteers and we needed everyone of them! We met Mike, the lead maintenance man for the community, who sings and plays guitar for the sick and homebound. It was great to see such a caring individual in charge of the maintenance crew. There were many residents with personal stories of loss and adversity, but also stories of triumph and hope. We weren’t able to get all the jobs done, but maybe that was God’s plan all along. During our time there, the community came together and younger residents connected with older ones and made plans to help each other finish the projects!

Oak Lawn Estates
October 17, 2020 Morton, IL. Stories matter! Every one of us has a story to tell. I remember my grandpa's funeral from years ago. For hours, the family of which there were close to 100 of us down to great grandkids simply told each other stories,...

Beth, the "Chalk Lady" is a lovely Oaklawn resident who brings colorful sunshine to the community by creating chalk murals on the streets and sidewalks. Some of them she draws to thank the mailman, or greet the kids at the bus stop or just to brighten someone's day! She is always helping her neighbors trim their bushes or rake leaves. Beth was so impressed and grateful for the help we provided to her neighbors - she even drew a chalk mural thanking us!

Tim Hays is a fantastic volunteer who has joined us at several events! This guitar playing, music loving man was born, raised, and still lives in Waterford, Michigan. Tim truly exemplifies the spirit of caring and giving back to our residents! He always has a positive attitude and loves to share his deep faith with others. Tim tells us that he is the one who is truly blessed at these events. He knows of no other MHP owner or company in the industry that has conceived and embraced this type of caring service to their residents. He says what he enjoys most is the opportunity to just take time to meet people - and really listen and learn about them, their lives and their history. Tim is a Sr. Project Manager for Impact Communities. He enjoys biking and hiking with his son, or anything that gets him outdoors!

To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.
