Something I noticed this morning driving into work was the difference in driver behavior on the highway.
Several weeks ago, it was still dark during my morning commute…as we move into February, it’s getting lighter during the same morning commute and drivers seem to have lost their minds…
I watched 2 sets of road rage play out on the 3 lane highway I take to work…speeding and intentionally cutting each other off to get ahead! Both times, I found myself holding my breath watching this play out passing me and several others.
Daylight is providing drivers a scary sense of confidence. It is imperative our drivers keep their emotions in-check and “assume the worst in others” as we travel.
Not only are motor carriers a huge target already, but with the added sense of confidence daylight is seemingly giving some drivers, its important now more than ever to bring our defensive driving techniques to work with us every day.
Watch our speed and following distance- we have to be the better drivers and not let ourselves become complacent…compromising our commitment to the safety of ourselves, other drivers, and the communities in which we travel. 😊
Also wanted to share a story from last week:
We got a call into safety from another CMV driver stating our driver hit and caused damage to his tractor. This other driver provided three pictures of the alleged damage to his truck.
This information was timely enough that we were able to pull extended recording from SmartDrive to investigate…
After viewing the footage we were able to determine our driver did not make contact with this other driver- A WIN FOR OUR DRIVER!
It doesn’t happen near as much as I’d like, but every time SmartDrive is able to exonerate one of our own – I’ll take it!
Thank you for all you continue to do - we appreciate you.
