Happy October Scorpion Families!!
With your partnership we have started off the school year with a huge success.
Driveline has gone better than it has ever before, with both dismissal times finishing within 30 minutes! I know that as the year goes by we will get even faster. Today was also our first half day and we had a few minor glitches that were fixed immediately thanks to teamwork between all staff members.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child's academic success. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me via Dojo or email.
Have a great month Scorpions!!!🦂🦂🦂

Curriculum Highlight: 7th Grade SS
|
|
7th Grade Social Studies students will continue to study Medieval Europe for the duration of October under the instruction of Mr. Matthew Cardoza (pictured above). People use the phrase “Middle Ages” to describe Europe between the fall of Rome in 476 CE and the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th century. Many scholars call the era the “medieval period” instead; “Middle Ages,” they say, incorrectly implies that the period is an insignificant blip sandwiched between two much more important epochs.
Students will be looking most closely at the role of Charlemagne the Great (pictured above), the Crusades, and the role of religion in governance. The unit will conclude with a project in which students will write a movie script about a fictional Medieval European of their creation.
Students will be working on the following learning objectives:
|
|
- Think analytically by
- Posing and framing questions
- Gathering a variety of evidence
- Recognizing continuity and detecting change over time
- Utilizing chronology to examine cause and effect relationships
- Drawing and combining reasonable inferences from a variety of sources to build an understanding of complex questions
- Read widely and critically by
- Examining, interpreting, and contextualizing primary sources focusing on author, purpose, and audience of each source
|
|
- Identifying and comparing historical, geographic, economic, and political science interpretations from a wide variety of secondary sources
- Utilizing broader understanding to discern subtext in primary and secondary sources
- Communicate cogently and in a compelling manner by
- Developing and defending evidenced based arguments
- Utilizing multiple perspectives for comprehensive explanations
- Practicing and cultivating a wide variety of diverse types of writing
- Engaging in constructive conversations around history and social science topics

Teachers continue to focus on the Framework for Teaching adapted from Charlotte Danielson with specific attention to Domain 3: Instruction, now that our scholars have returned to campus.
We are committed to engaging our students in learning. This includes activities and assignments, instructional materials and resources, and structure and pacing. We want our students to be creative and innovative, flexible in their ability to solve problems, and determined to complete rigorous learning objectives within our curriculum.
Below you will find a mind map created by one of our grade-level teaching groups illustrating how 3c: Engaging Students in Learning is central to all other components within Domain 3.
