Gordon College Announces the New School of Education!

This new school represents a gathering of the College's existing undergraduate and graduate offerings in education under a single administrative roof. Gordon's Department of Education initiated this change in the fall of 2016 through discussions with the Academic Programs Committee and the full faculty before receiving Cabinet approval later that academic year. The Board subsequently approved it.  Since the Board's approval, the College has been seeking philanthropic support for several initiatives around the creation of a new School of Education. This week, we are delighted to announce those gifts and the initiatives they will support with the School's founding.

Dr. Janet S. Arndt, currently the Director of Graduate Education will be installed as the Dean of the School of Education. Dr. Priscilla S. Nelson who is the Department of Education Moderator, and Chair of Undergraduate Department will be installed as the inaugural Richard F. Gross Endowed Chair in Education. This chair was created in honor of the College's sixth president through a generous gift, and it is a privilege to recognize Priscilla's longstanding service to the College and to the field of education with her appointment as chair.

The installation will be part of a larger celebration of the School of Education during this special Convocation. We will provide the college community with an update on the reorganization, and also announce the creation of the Grace Evelyn Hinshaw '65 School of Education Endowed Scholarship. During this ceremony, we will also introduce the Margaret C. Wright Memorial Alumni Award in honor of recent Gordon alumna Margaret Wright. As some of you may know, Margaret graduated in 2017 with a dual licensure in Early Childhood and English as a Second Language and sadly passed away during her first year of teaching kindergarten at the Cornerstone Schools of Washington, D.C. The award, which will recognize the work of a Gordon graduate who teaches in an underserved population, will provide funds for both the alumni and the school where he or she teaches, as well as for the awardee to return to Gordon's campus to share their experiences with current Education students.

If you are available, join us on Friday, November 15th at 10:20 AM for the Convocation in honor of the new Gordon College School of Education.

Meals on Campus

Many of our courses run on Saturdays, and these professors often like to hold working lunches.  If you would like to get lunch on campus, but do not have time to sit in the all-you-care-to-eat dining hall in Lane Student Center (link to campus map here), graduate students can request a to-go box at the cashier.  Simply state that you are a graduate student looking to purchase a to-go meal, present the cashier with your student ID card, and pay the one-time $7 fee to by-in to the reusable to-go green box system.  Then pay the cost of the meal ($8.50 for breakfast/brunch, $11 for lunch or $12.50 or dinner).  After class, you can return your box to the cashier and receive a green-box card.  At future meals, you will need to present this card and payment for the meal to receive a box.  If you lose this card, you will need to purchase another green-box.

Click here to check the schedule and menu for dining services.
