Registration for 2020 102/105 Basic Technical Training Opens Today
The 2020 102/105 Basic Technical Training session is open to conservation district and DEP staff. The event will take place March 16-19 at the Wyndham State College in Boalsburg, PA, with little or no cost to attend. (See registration information for details.) Register Now for the 2020 Chesapeake Bay Program Conservation District and PA Agency Staff Meeting
The 2020 Chesapeake Bay Program Conservation District and PA Agency Staff Meeting will be held on March 9, 2020, at the Degenstein Theater at Susquehanna University, 514 University Ave, Selinsgrove, PA 17870. The target audience for this meeting is staff from PA state agencies, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and conservation districts.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to the snow date (March 11, 2020). Registrants will be notified via email 24 hours in advance if the meeting is postponed.
Registration is through the Clean Water Academy.

This meeting is sponsored by the PA Department of Environmental Protection with administrative assistance from PACD.

NRCS Conservation Showcase Features Franklin County Project
Recently, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service wrote a Conservation Showcase titled "Streambank Restoration at Waynesboro Church," written by Justin Atkins. The piece features a stream restoration project by Franklin County Conservation District.
From the piece:
Streambank erosion is currently one of the most common problems affecting streams in Pennsylvania. When a stream is eroded, sediment contaminates the water; sediment is currently one of the largest contributors to pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. When a streambank that ran along the property of Great Commission Deliverance Ministries Church in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, began to erode, Jana Mellott connected with Tammy Piper, Watershed Specialist for the Franklin County Conservation District, in May of 2014 to see what could be done to improve the stream.

Be a Presenter or Exhibitor at the Mid-Atlantic Region's Award-Winning Water Education Summit!
The fifth biennial Dive Deeper Summit is returning to Harrisburg, PA, on October 1, 2020. On behalf of the steering committee, we invite you to be a presenter or exhibitor at the event. This is a great opportunity to share your new approach to teaching youth about water. Did you create a new activity or curriculum resource? Have you discovered a tool to use? Is there a new approach we should all be trying? Is there a new or emerging water issue or discovery that you can share? A more extensive list of suggested subjects is in the formal request for proposals. All proposals are due on February 28.

February Webinar on Water Savings in Urban Outdoor Irrigation
"Evaluating the Potential for Water Savings in Urban Outdoor Irrigation" is the topic for the National Association of Conservation Districts Urban and Community Conservation webinar set for 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. on February 20, 2020.
The Alliance for Water Efficiency has conducted several studies over the past four years to look at the best practices and outcomes for reducing urban outdoor water use since it is the largest single area of drinking water use in the urban sector.
