PERFECT TIMING

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:14-15

Sunday afternoon, Aaron Rodgers will step into history on the legendary frigid turf of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Rodgers has played in Lambeau many times, but never a game like this. Rodgers has played in four NFC Division Championships, but never once has he played this championship game on his home turf - until this Sunday. At 1:05 pm Mountain Standard Time, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will tackle Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I am excited for our Grace Fellowship Packer fans.

Sunday’s game time is set, planned by whoever makes those decisions. Everyone’s plans will revolve around game time. DVRs will be set, grills will be fired up, and the teams will run out of their respective tunnels at the proper time. “GO PACK GO!” will echo off of green and gold walls filled with fans everywhere. At the predetermined time, when the clock strikes 1:05 pm, Aaron Rodgers will run out the tunnel, onto the field.

God’s perfect plan of redemption has a timetable too. And He is the One who makes the decisions. Everyone’s plans will revolve around that time. Jesus said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom is at hand.” Jesus isn’t saying the kingdom is nearby, but instead, the kingdom is already here. The translated Greek words Jesus uses are important and perfect-tense verbs. πεπλήρωται, means “is (now) fulfilled” and ἤγγικεν means “has drawn near or is now at hand.” Here’s what’s exciting ... a perfect-tense verb is a past action with a present, enduring result. In other words, the kingdom is no place else and there is no more waiting; the kingdom IS Jesus who is now on the scene and is staring you in the face! WHOA! Jesus came, and His perfect plan of redemption is still being fulfilled in His timing.

But Jesus isn’t done. He gives us instructions on what to do next ... “repent and believe.” Gallons of ink have been spilled and hours of speculation spent on when our Lord will return. We don’t know when that will be, our Lord is the One making that decision in His timing. But what we can do right now is repent of our sins, and believe the gospel that Christ died and rose for you.

I’ll be watching the game Sunday, and my afternoon plans will revolve around that historic game. My TV will be set to the proper station at the proper time, and if lucky, my wife will make her famous guacamole. I don’t know if the Packers will win Sunday on Lambeau Field, but what I do know is that Christ already won your salvation on Calvary’s cross. In His perfect timing He will come again!

See ya Sunday - I can't wait
Austin

PS: I am still a Bronco fan.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
