Greetings from our ALCM Board of Directors, in the name of the One who was, and is, and is to come, Jesus Christ!
All Saints Day is a day of mixed emotions, of rejoicing and remembering, of looking back and looking forward. In the Northern Hemisphere daylight is short and growing shorter. Leaves are turning colors and falling from trees. It is, in some way, an unsettled time, an in between time.
This surely fits our life outside of the Church. We are in the final days of an election, and deep into a pandemic. The outcome of neither is sure. I find that our lectionary in November fits these days well, as our readings look forward to a time we can only see in our imaginations, in our hope.
On a practical note, our ALCM Board of Directors met on October 22. Here are some notable things to report from the meeting.
- Jim Rindelaub, our Executive Director, continues to envision and produce strong programming for members and others, which helps us with ministry in these days. Example: a fall webinar series, following on our successful series in the summer.
- We have an expanding social media presence, ably led by Joan Miller. You can help with this presence by sharing or liking tweets, posts, and pictures.
- Our financial picture is solid. Especially gratifying in this area is the establishment of the Norma Aamodt-Nelson Student Scholar Fund. This is an endowed fund that will support students for many years to come.
- As a result of all this, our membership numbers are strong! We continue, even in these uncertain times, to welcome new members.

All Saints Day Remembrance
Every two years during the biennial conference we remember those ALCM members and others who have died since the previous conference. Since we will not be meeting in 2021, it seemed appropriate to remember them on this All Saints Day.

As we announced last week, the 2021 biennial conference has been postponed until 2023, but ALCM is still committed to finding alternate ways for us to be a community in 2021. A pandemic resources page has been added to the ALCM website. These resources are not intended to be comprehensive, nor are they a “one size fits all” solution. Instead, this page is intended to be a gathering place for various resources related to worship and music during a time when abnormal has become the norm.
Included on this page are the articles from the summer 2020 issue of CrossAccent, which is dedicated almost exclusively to issues surrounding the pandemic.

Grace Notes Now Available
|
Past issues of ALCM's original newsletter, Grace Notes, are now available for viewing and download in the members area of the ALCM website. This newsletter, which ceased publication in 2011, combined news items and brief articles of interest and included an insert of practical ideas related to worship and music called "ResourCenter" (originally "Resource Center"). Issues from 1997-2011 are now posted in the members area of the website. Issues prior to 1997 will be posted as they become available.

Chris Nelson, sound and video engineer at C. Scott Company, will talk about the process of preparing for and creating a great virtual music offering. He’ll review everything from selecting repertoire best suited for virtual performance, to managing the logistics, and producing the best final product. While the means of making a virtual performance are very different from the music making we know and love, we can still offer an engaging and impactful gift that touches the hearts of viewers as if they were in the room with us. John Rausch is compiling recordings of sung performances of Lutheran Service Book (LSB) hymns by individuals, choirs, and congregations. Although he is interested in all LSB hymns, he is particularly interested in recordings of the less well-known hymns.
