Principal's Message
Hello EAMS Students and Families:
I hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break!
In 8th grade this week, the students met with their middle-school counselors in preparation for their visit to the high school next week. Time flies and our 8th graders will soon be 9th graders. As a former 8th grade teacher, this is a very exciting time of year. To interact with students around their future planning is highly rewarding. As well, students have begun to study the Holocaust in their English classes. Although a tragic period in history, the conversations and maturity that students display in this unit leads to high levels of learning and awareness. It’s always great to see our students so engaged in a topic.
I had the opportunity to sit in on several “Rube Goldberg” presentations this week in the seventh grade. The curiosity and creativity of adolescents never ceases to amaze me. I was thoroughly impressed by our students’ public-speaking skills. This is a very important skill for their futures, and it can cause a lot of apprehension. Our seventh graders rose to the occasion, and many displayed their technological prowess while doing so!
Across the building, our Olweus groups this morning were working on the theme of “New Year, New You.” Students engaged in reflecting on the past year planning for the current year both personally and academically. Our Olweus groups this year are mixed grade, meaning 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students interact. It was really impressive and unique to hear the students of different grades collaborating and sharing their ideas and strategies for self-improvement. The mentoring opportunity this has provided our students is really unique.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
