SHOREFRONT JEWISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL PREPARES FOR MAJOR PASSOVER FOOD DISTRIBUTION
by Boruch Shubert
In keeping with its annual tradition of ensuring that local low-income and elderly residents are able to properly celebrate the Passover holiday, the Shorefront Jewish Community Council (SJCC) is engaging in a massive distribution of Kosher-for-Passover food items Thursday, April 7, 2022. The Council will be handing out approximately 700 food packages at its distribution site. The packages are enabled by the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, the Food Bank for New York City, United Way of New York City's HPNAP (Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program), Leader Family Fund, UJA-Federation of New York, sources which prefer to remain anonymous and private donations. This distribution is part of the year round "Louis Maron Memorial Food Pantry" program operated by SJCC.

According to Larisa Boas, Executive Director at SJCC, clients will be given an array of traditional foods such as; matzohs, grape juice, gefilte fish, cooking oil, sardines, canned beets, horseradish, mayonnaise, Passover cakes and fresh produce.

"We are delighted to once again distribute kosher food items to economically disadvantaged residents of the greater Brighton Beach area in advance of Passover," states Rabbi Moshe Wiener, Executive Consultant, SJCC. "As we prepare for a holiday that commemorates redemption from suffering, this endeavor is intended to enable those who are in serious need (exacerbated by COVID-19)to experience a measure of relief and personal uplift while observing the joyous days of Passover."

Sincerely yours,
Rabbi Moshe Wiener
