Announcements

Adult Forum
We will continue our series on the Apocalypse this Sunday between the services at 9:00 in the parish hall.  It may be closer than you think. Come join us at 9:00 in the parish hall.

Sunday School
This Sunday will be regular classes, including confirmation, after an opening downstairs. The theme is Jesus Heals the Paralyzed Man.   Hope to see everyone back,
George

Souper Bowl of Caring
Bishop Gutierrez and Canon Wamsley got to see Redeemer in action on Sunday when parishioners brought in fo odstuffs in return for a bowl of delicious soup and a slice of bread. The food will be donated to a food bank in the area as part of the effort in Springfield called Souperbowl of Caring. Thanks to all who participated and to the folks who prepared and served the soup.

In addition to what we do at Redeemer the Sunday before the regular Super Bowl, Springfield and nearby communities participate in a program that gathers up food from local residents. Volunteers distribute fliers the weekend before the Super Bowl and then pick up the food the Saturday before the game. Because of the torrential rains on Saturday morning, a few brave souls (Frank and Jeanne Dewan and Chuck Klaniecki) went out on Saturday afternoon to distribute the fliers in Section 15 of Springfield. This coming Saturday, February 1, the food needs to be picked up.

There are two ways that you can help:
  • You can meet the Dewans at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 9:30 am or give them a call at 610-328-5790 or email them at [email protected] to let them know you want to help.
  • You can help sort and box food at one of three locations starting at 10:00 am:
Covenant Methodist Church at Springfield and Saxer Avenues.
Tree of Life Church at Baltimore Pike and Church Road
St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 400 Lynbrooke Rd.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Save the date, Tuesday, February 25th, for the annual Shrove Tuesday Sausage and Pancake Supper. Check upcoming weekly announcements for details.

St Stephens Bingo
On Saturday, February 29th, at 7 pm St Stephens in Clifton Heights is hosting Cabin Fever Bingo. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this event in support of the St Stephens pre-school program.

Pledging and Offering Envelopes
Thank you for pledging your support to our church. We cannot do the ministry Christ has called us to without your support.

If you have not yet done so, please remember to pick up your 2020 offering envelopes at the rear of the sanctuary; and, if you have not yet returned your pledge card, please forward it to the office as soon as possible.

Lifeline Screening Tomorrow
Returns to the Church of the Redeemer tomorrow, Life Line Screening Logo January 31st. Don't let heart disease  or stroke stop you from living the life you love. Call, text or email to schedule your screening: 1.800.679.5609 or [email protected].

Gift of Angels
The Gift of Angels program is being re-energized with the formation of a committee comprised of Lee Lucas, Helen Lightcap, and Jane Nyiri. They will be compiling a list of items needed by the church and prioritizing them.  We have a number of people who have already donated to this program or have committed to a donation and we want to thank them for their support of Redeemer.  When the committee completes the list of needs, they will match the gifts with the needs and then we can acknowledge the donors. If you see a need or wish to make a donation, please contact one of the three members of the committee.

Thrift Shop
The holiday schedule has ended and normal hours have resumed.  Earnings for December were $1822; total earnings for 2019 were $22,497.

Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,  one God,

Altar Flower Dedications - 2020

Sponsoring our Sunday altar flowers is a great way to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, remember a loved one who has passed, or mark any other special occasion.  The suggested donation is $20 per arrangement, which offsets the cost of the flowers provided by Leary's Florist.  A list of dedications for the year 2020 is being compiled in the office.  If you wish to sponsor the flowers during this year please submit your name and preferred wording of the dedication to [email protected] or in a note placed in the offering plate.

Blue Gift
Gift of Angels

There are expenses that pop up that are not included in our annual operating budget, and this program covers those.

Your gift to the Gift of Angels program can be in the form of a monetary donation or a gift-in-kind and can be made in thanksgiving or in memory of someone. It can cover all or part of an item on the wish list.  All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  You will receive recognition of your gift, and all gifts are recorded in our Book of Memorials and Gifts.

Please make checks payable to Church of the Redeemer and designate Gift of Angels or your specific designation on the memo line.

Your consideration of support for this campaign is greatly appreciated!
